Default ecoswap

Hey guys new to the forum but Ford for life. I love the site and my question is I found a low mile ecoboost from a wrecked 2011 f150 and wanted to know what it would take to swap it for my 4.2 in my 06 f150 xl 2wd auto.

You will be bitting of a whole can of worms. you will need all of the computers, wirring harnes, exhaust system from the cats forward, all of the sensers, high presure fuel pump, intercooler, radiater and all of the related plumbing. That being said it would be an awsome swap if you have a complete fab. shop and a bottemless wallet. It would be far cheaper to just buy a new truck and you would have a warenty

I agree, this would be a mighty task for anyone who is a weekend warrior. Personally I think, you'd be better off buying a turbo kit for your 4.2.

I had a buddy back in the day try to take a 2.3l turbo from thunderbird and put it in a ranger and he had nothing but problems. Lol.

Default no haters allowed

thanks for the encouragement. what a rough month after getting my truck everyone is hateing on me no matter if it was my friend trying to sell me a chevy when i said i was buying a ford or the parts guys trying to sell me parts they like versus what i specificly asked for. would just love some insight on the task at hand not changing the task. i can get the ecoboost with 7000 mi. and all accessories for $3000 and i paid $4950 for my 06 with 135,000 mi. if i spent another $2000 putting it together id still be under $10000 maybe $15000 with some other stuff and the cheapest 2011 f150 ecoboost used is $27000. and putting turbo on my 4.2 it still wouldnt have that great torque curve and bulletproof durability of the eco and still get 20 mpg. and please dont say get a v8 like the ones it already out tows, once again i want a solution not an alternative to my problem. as far as comparing it to swaping a tbird motor in a truck at least im talking about taking one f150 motor to another. it shold be all bolt on, a hell of alot of bolt on and alot of money but it still should be very doable. and well worth it. any way if there is any fab to be done i would love to here about that or any other things needed for swap such as mounts or tranny.

You would have to do a lot of R&D on exactly how they both mount up and what space you'll have to work with. It's not going to be like the S10/Blazer that you could take out the V6 and drop a 350 in and the mounts line up (it'd be awesome if it would). I think that's a hell of a price for the motor if everything (trans, harness, ecu, cats etc) is included.

Sounds like you have extra funds to work with and if you have the extra time, do it. Someone already did a floor console with shifter swap from a 09 FX to an 04-08 body style. Best of luck to you and keep us updated if you do go that route.

thanks im disabled and dont work just take care of my dad so got alot of time and i love my dad and my truck and we use it to travel. its great that we all love to individualize our vehicles its just lately everyone wants to mod my vehicle in stead of there's... with my money. lol . im getting a black grille, blacked lights and a leveling kit but still looking for front and rear bumpers.
having ecomare's of what the ecoboost motor would do for the truck and get better gas milage than the 4.2 i got now. the price is for just motor, accessories, ecu and harness. could i go without the cats they cut them off quick at the salvage yard for recycling and i live in a area where emmision controls are not inspected or regulated.
kinda thought it would have been done by now or there would be more swaps attemps for this motor guess it is kinda new.

read the whole thread "no haters" and the 2011 is totaled in a salvage yard. you cant rebuild it at any cost. and letting an ecoboost rot or get crushed seams a shame...
