Default ECM Confusion

Hello all

Long story short, I had a local shop discover that my ECM is bad upon trying to get my truck inspected. The truck “sat” for a little bit but not without me looking after it with starting it, bringing it up to temp, and/or taking it for short drives. The battery had to be charged a few times, and eventually replaced. Recently, I have put almost 175 miles on the truck since replacing the battery. Truck runs good, shifts good, idles good, no warning lights are on, and no other apparent issues. This is all after I changed the transmission fluid and filter after I had a check engine light come on that is now gone. I had an issue with slipping/knocking that is no more since servicing the transmission.

Im confused at the ECM being bad per the local shop. I’m not discrediting what they are telling me. If my ECM was bad, wouldn’t the truck show signs of it in the way it runs, starts, shifts, etc..?

Thank you for any help

Hi Mark

The ECM hasn’t been replaced yet. The truck drives fine pre-diagnosis and post-diagnosis of a supposed bad ECM

Whatever their machine is suppose to read when doing inspections which they mentioned being 4 different things, are saying “Not Ready”. They tried doing something to get it to read but no success

There are none, but I don’t think it is able to read the ECM? Which is perhaps why it’s bad according to them? Not too familiar with this. They said codes were cleared in the past due to unhooking/hooking/changing the battery.

If it just posts areas as not ready doesn't that mean you just haven't hit some threshold in the drive cycle routine yet?

Can you find out what the four things are that posted as not ready?

From what I understand, that is typically the case. Between myself and the mechanic, it has at least 175 miles on it since the new battery. He is baffled. The O2 sensor is one of the four main categories that continues to come up as “Not Ready”

I know that the requirements to meet all criteria are sometimes kind of weird. I've read about a lot of my Mustang brethren with modified cars trying to get their cars to all "ready" status after header installs etc. and they have to go to some silly lengths to get them to do so after a full PCM clearing. Maybe you can find out what has to be met so you can get it done.
