Considering 4X4
I already have an 07 F150 but its a 2wd. I've been thinking about trading in for a 4X4 within the same body style years because four wheel drive would come in handy sometimes. I only have 55k miles on it and its in great shape. Is it worth trading in on a 4X4 even if I may have to get one with higher miles or older than mine? Looking for some friendly advice!
I love my 2wd and would personally never get a 4wd unless it had manual hubs.
A cheaper route could be good tires and a locker in the rear. A properly locked 2wd can hangout with 4wd through most terrain.
But if you get a deal i would try and go 08. The 5.4s had less plug issues abd the 4.6 was the most powerful this year. My thought is if your gonna trade at least trade up. Cheap xl 09s might even be a possibility.

I went to look at the pricing and mileage of the condition trucks I'd be interested in today and I'm going to wait a year or two. I love my truck so I'm not going to settle for anything in worse condition when it's running perfectly.
I was looking at getting a 4X4 because my dad and I got on a duck lease for next year. I was wanting the extra wheel power while towing through wet ground and mud. I have an open differential so I'm pretty useless in mud.

I looked at rear lockers last year but got a little nervous because of having to open the gearbox and things could go wrong. That just me being too cautious though. Looked at Detroit lockers for a limited slip diff.
Look into the lockrite or aussie locker. They just replace the spider gears. Nice and simple. It is my next step.

One thing 4X4 is good for is to get you stuck $200 further than a 2WD. Yes I own a 4x4, but was required to have one for my job. A locking rear end, good tires and common sense when getting around goes a long way in getting you to where you want to go.
I couldn't have a 2wd truck, but that's cause I live in Alabama and we have a lot of sandy clay dirt roads. I've seen trucks stuck on a dry hot summer day where push of a button would get them out. But hunting season is a different beast lol Ive stuck a lot of 4x4's in mud. so if ur getting a 4x4 to go through mud ud prolly be better off with a winch, like everyone said it just gets u stuck further.
I think I'm going to look into the locking rear end route. I don't plan on going through thick mud so I'm pretty sure a good locker would get me where I wanna go. We have a fourwheeler so that will handle the thick mud.
