I was thinking the same thing, trading for a 4x4, but thought I would just get a locker. I wanted to start going hunting next year.

 

I get decent snow around here in winter and drive alot of gravel back roads that get pretty icy in winter.I have good rubber and only use my 4x4 a hand full of times.
Proper tires and control of your right foot is all you need,I find these trucks to be pretty
stable in crappy condtions. My Sierra had the locking diff and I used the 4x4 once in that thing,great option IMO and miss not having it now.

 

I decided a no on the trade in because I have many years left on my truck now. Pretty sure I'm going to do a locker. Just have to pick either an automatic locker or limited slip locker. Probably going with a Detroit truetrac (limited split) since it is my daily driver.

 

If you are towing in mud/off road I highly recommend 4x4 I use mine 12-20 times a year. It can be the difference between getting stuck in minor mud with a 6k lb load in the rain, or switching a switch and making it home with out calling a buddy or getting myself dirty. It can also be fun to say "hey yall watch this"....and be the HERO of the day, just make sure you have the cash just in case you break something.

My truck is already has an open axle so I might just get a locker. Don't know what brand but I'll just look around, either getting an electric locker or an air locker.

 

Only thing I plan on towing offroad is a fourwheeler and the fourwheeler is going to handle the thick mud. I also might just have some fun offroad every now and then also but nothing extreme. Just want something that's more reliable offroad than my open dif which would be the Detroit truetrac.

The ARB selectable locker is good from everything I've read. Need a compressor because its locked by air pressure though.
