Default Cant pull codes! need help

first off, yes i searched but i came up with nothing here. my truck has been throwing an abs light and i finally got around to putting a scanner on it to pull the code. i started with my fathers snap on scanner and after repeated tries it kept telling me it couldnt communicate with the truck. after that i grabbed the cheapo MAC tools code reader and got the same result. now i know the OBDII port is getting power because it powered up both the scanner and the code reader so im at a loss here. anyone else have this issue? where do i start to trouble shoot this? thanks in advance for any advice.

Neither of those scanners will read abs unless there is abs software programmed for that scanner. most aftermarket scanners will only read (EEC) typically the dealer or a good shop will have the software or proper scanner to read abs. the same goes for any type of body codes, airbag..

the snap on scanner is able to pull those codes, thats why i used that one. its a $1200 scanner designed to pull such codes. the problem is neither were able to communicate with the truck, i tried the cheapo mac one just to see if it was able to communicate with the truck to make sure it wasnt an issue with the snap on scanner. is there a reason why neither of them would communicate with the truck?

if you cannot not comminicate with the truck on eec also then you probably have a blown fuse for the cigar lighter. does your cigar lighter work ?? that fuse powers up the dcl connector the fuse is in the right front kit panel

yeah the lighter works, that was the first thing i checked. i just thought it was weird because the port was able to power up both of the units i tried so i dont understand why neither of them can even communicate with the truck. im wondering if the port is damaged

are you able to check the scanner with a 2nd like vehicle to check the scanners abilities.. what are the dates for the the snap on scanner software if it's older then 03 it's not going to communicate with fords EEC V software. Other then checking the scanner with a second like vehicle..
You may need to bring it to ford for a scan...

I just was reading your past is this truck the rebuild if so you need to check your grounds if you gutted the cab there may be a ground loose or missed

ground (G102) LOCATED IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT BY THE PCM TOP LEFT CORNER.. THAT IS YOUR GROUND FOR THE DCL CONNECTOR..ooops sorry for the caps
