the truck has 69,000 miles

Unless you purchased a extended warranty or something sorry man. Only if you did the repairs yourself or went somewhere else would it be cheaper and its probably going to cost that much at the dealer. Doesnt sound like customer service is going to help either. I would try and perform the repairs myself that is crazy that its that much you may just need the cam phasers. I think its a big job. if I remember right I think warranty pays 8 hours on that but thats just a guess.

I have to admit that after reading all this and being at like 65k on a 2005 5.4L this is all scarying the crap out of me. My engine doesn't "knock" and i always thought it ran fine. I have the 75k warranty deal, immmm going to keep my fingers crossed

Seems like I have heard of other people with 06 and 07 trucks having cam phaser noise but the TSB only covers 04 & 05. Did they change something after 05 that made the problem less likely on the later models or was the original TSB just never updated do you suppose?

I posted this with no answer.

If I was needing to pay for cam Phaser replacement I would definetly look into upgrading and modifying. I am going to call my local for performance shop ( http://www.jbaracing.com/ ) and see if these cam pahse kits work - will get back to you guys

I just talked to the guys at JBA Racing http://www.jbaracing.com/
The Cam Phaser Limiting kits eliminate the Phaser problem and the upgrade on cams , dyno work adds 1500.00 to the cam phaser repair cost but also adds another 35 hp
so with exhaust intake and programmer would a person end up with close to 370 - 400 HP ??? plus no more cam Phaser issue!
