cam phasers
I didn't just get this revalation, merely stating the obvious. What is amazing is they cant do this recall, but the CEO can get a few million as a bonus. I need a job like that, do a horrible job at running a company, yet get millions as a reward for doing a horrible job.
Premium care covers cam phasers, and its a common problem with those motors , I get these claims on a regular basis as I work for the ESP program for ford. In fact I had one today I looked at. Sometimes even the camshafts are scored from the cam phasers and need replaced or worse. So anyone out of warranty would be wise to take care of any top end noise related to the cam phasers asap. We had one claim where vehicle needed both cams, phasers and related gasket total was like 2500 and that was warranty! Customer pays would be 5,000 probably
.....so anyway, I was dealing with the service manager and asked to hear the truck they supposedly compared mine to to determine the noise normal and the guy started stumbling all over himself and said that they didnt have one in ther right now but that they had some in the other day and they allsound like that. I went out to the sales dept and said I wanted to look at trucks and got them to fire some up. None rattled or knocked but we could hear mine across the parking lot which I can not catagorize as "slightly audible" as the TSB states as being normal.
I called fords customer service line and told them the whole story about the cam phasers and the dealerships mis-diagnosis...bla, bla, bla. They put me on hold then came back and said" we called the dealer and they said the noise is normal" Seriously.....these people get paid for what they do?!?! So I am at my wits end with the dealer and customer service is a joke. What is my next logical move?
Well maybe you can help me then since it sounds like you are kind on "on the inside".....As I suspected, my dealership claims the start up rattle and knock after warm up are "normal characteristics of that motor" and did not fix it. I am fairly pissed for several reasons. One is that the cam phasers are the main reason I brought it in but I told them to go ahead and fix the flacky window switch while they had it since I was already paying my $100 deductible. They fixed the window switch which as it turns out they had broken last time my truck was in their shop for the window falling off the track. I would have fixed that myself if I knew it would cost me $100 and they werent going to fix the main problem I brought it in for. On top of that, they somehow shorted out something while doing the brake booster hose recall last weekend that caused my air bag and battery light to light up halfway all the time and my heater controls stopped working. I unwedged a harness they did not reconnect above the transmission and the heater started working again so I know thay screwed something up there but now they tell me that yhey didnt do it and that the lights are normal. I DON'T F*****G THINK SO!

I would suggest going to another dealer, sorry ive seen it before and customer service sounds like there not going to get in the middle or do anything. That is about the only thing you can do at this point.
I was trying to avoid that because I figured another dealer isnt going to want to stand behind a truck sold by another dealer as well as having to pay another $100 deductible. I might have to bite the bullet and do exactly that though.
You can use your esp at any ford dealer. The $100.00 deductable though you will have to pay since its a new concern.
Its a new concern in their eyes maybe but I have the service ticket from the other dealer that lists customer complaint and that they checked it out and deemed it normal so its not a new complaint as far as I am concerned. I am going to do my best to cause enough of a stink to get the dealer to step up. We have bought 6 new cars/trucks and one used truck from this dealer. I think we deserve a higher level of service from these people.
I have had my 04 FX4 Supercrew for a little over a year. Has 75k miles on it and mine started with very poor acceleration on top of all the knocking noises. It literally took about a week to go from 0-60. Ford had me get the 60k mile tune up and have the catalytic converters replaced before they would commit to any help on the phasers. I have done both as requested and I noticed a VERY slight improvement with the converter replacement. However, the knocking noise is still very annoying and I'm worried about future damage.

I meant you would have to pay a deductable if you went to another dealership. I would still try and work it out with your current dealer though but if not I would try another dealer.
Well I am screwed, Carmax is not a Certified Used car dealer and Beach Ford says I am out of warrenty. The service guy said it would be about $3000-$5000 bucks to fix. Is there anything else I can do to get this thing fixed? I have already called ford customer service... nada
the truck has 69,000 miles
