The certified pre-owned program on ford vehicles is strictly a ford dealer thing. I have the premium care warranty through 75k miles and I actually just dropped my truck off at the dealer today to get the cam phasers done. The dealer said that it is covered under my warranty if they determine that is the problem. I of course have to pay the $100 deductable. I am positive the cam phasers are the problem but I get the impression that the dealer would like to try and push it off as normal noises. We will see how it turns out. I am not optimistic since the dealer already broke my truck doing the brake hose recall this weekend. I am terrified by the thought of them going inside my motor.

called today Customer Service said that I have to make an appointment with the service manager to move any further. He still did not say what or what not ford was going to pay for the cam phasers. Going to make an appointment tommorrow.

Premium care covers cam phasers, and its a common problem with those motors , I get these claims on a regular basis as I work for the ESP program for ford. In fact I had one today I looked at. Sometimes even the camshafts are scored from the cam phasers and need replaced or worse. So anyone out of warranty would be wise to take care of any top end noise related to the cam phasers asap. We had one claim where vehicle needed both cams, phasers and related gasket total was like 2500 and that was warranty! Customer pays would be 5,000 probably

By cam phaser, I assume that you are talking about the variable timing "thingys" on the end of the cams that are used for the variable timing? If so, can I just add a "lock out kit" to the thing and not have to worry about it?

Quite a racket they have going there, lets build tens of thousands of engines with a part that will wear out after the warranty expires, that was we can make millions in repair money. So what if they get better gas mileage than a Tundra, the money saved from that will go for engine repairs later.

Sorry, but I'm still fairly new to the f150 scene. What engines does this cam chaser thingy effect? just the 5.4 or all?
