Default Cam phaser instructions

Oles anyone have the directions for cam phaser replacement. Most importantly is it required to TDC the crank prior to removal of the failed phasers? Also has anyone used a phaser lockout? And lastly does the truck need recoded after installation to kill the "limp" mode?

I would highly recommend you seriously consider changing the entire timing set and not just the phasers.

And, in my opinion, take a look at your lash adjusters and followers while you are in there.

And upgrade to a high-flow oil pump

Thanks for the links Corey, great info. Unfortunately I don't have a choice. I don't have the time, money or the know how to take the front panel off and replace the whole timing components. I just had to replace my wife's 5.4 in her expedition so I can't afford to do anything without doing it myself. Times are tough and money is few and far between but the truck still needs fixed.

That may be so but many that just do phasers find the same problems resurface in a short period of time. The excessive wear in the phasers is due to an oil pressure issue from leaking seals on the chain tensioners.

Yep, you are spending money to fix something wrong, it will act up again shortly. Do it right and do it once, which is really the cheapest way.

i just replaced the phasers, all te timing kit, and the oil pump, all parts from motorcraft. A good friend of mine its a Ford dealer mecanic chief, he told me its verry important to use all motorcraft parts, not just for sell to me the parts, he told me the oil filter has an internal valvule taht hels to keept oil in the superior part of the engine when you turn off, so whe you start it, your engine will be well lubricated in all components. other filters dont have that valvle

Wrong, other filters have the anti drain back valve but he is right about using all Motorcraft when replacing the timing system.
