K&N to the rescue
Found my simple fix. I took off my AFE filter replaced it with a K&N cone filter and truck has been running great. Got better gas mileage (of course still testing that). No check engine codes for over 3000 miles.

if its anything to you, i talked to a preston ford cheif mechanic (a friend who worked for preston gave me his number) that sometimes there are short term gliches in the computers and that they will pop up for no reason and then go away. my check engine light came on once got it checked and it was my ECM (electronic control module) and after abt a week and a half it went away and never saw it again.

Thanks for the info. I tried many things over a few months to get the check engine light to stay off with the AFE filter and the only thing that worked was taping off the filter reducing the amount of air flow. Do to the fact that the K&N has not produced any codes it proves to me that the amount of air flow with the K&N is more compatible with the computer settings in the 05 F150.
