Default advice

yesterday the 11th, i turned 17! since i was 14 i knew i wanted to get a truck so i started saving every penny from then till now. so me and my father checked out a few trucks in the last few months, but none stood out quite like the 2006 f150 fx4 supercrew with the 5.4 we saw, but it costed quite a bit more than i had. So i got home from work yesterday, showered, came down stairs and my dad told me to go outside, sitting there in the driveway was a shiny F150. I was ecstatic! Understand that over half the truck was payed for with the money id saved, and i will continue to pay it off so its not "Daddys Truck" that im driving. anyway, i drove it all last night, and to and from work today and im in love with it. BUT this is my first vehicle so i think it would be a good idea to ask the truck gurus for some general advice so i can maintain it properly. Thanks all answers are appreciated!

ps. id love to upload photos but i think im doing something wrong

Congratulations! I had a similar experience when I was 16. I hope you enjoy your truck as much as I did mine.

Can't give you any real advice, besides choose the right size lift kit and tires the first time around, so that you don't have to waste money going from a level to a 4" lift, a 4" to a 6" lift, a 6" to a 8" lift, and so on. Trust me, soon enough, and you'll understand what I'm talking about. BTW, use Photobucket to upload pictures, it's the easiest way to. Go to Photobucket(.com), create an account (or sign in if you have one), upload the pictures from your computer to your PB album, then copy and paste the IMG code in a post on here. Good luck with your new truck!

If you run down this forum once a day, you usually find something that pertains to your situation, and just reading posts at random you'll really get a feel for the inner workings of your rig.
Can't have an f-150 and not read this forum daily. If you don't, you'll waste tons of dough on stuff you could have easily done yourself. Congrats.

My advice is to make sure the old man knows what that mean to you! Sounds like you got a great dad! Before spending Ny money on the truck take him out for supper and I know you're too young but tell him to enjoy a couple beers and you be the dd in your new truck! Congrats!

Just enjoy the truck... In time you'll start to figure out what YOU want to do to the truck....options are endless and only you alone can make those decisions... Irish has great points..

If only all young guys thought like that. My old man and I were very close. We sat and talked for 4 hrs one night when I wanted to be at a party instead, when I was 28. He died the next day. Thank god I didn't blow him off, I would have regretted that everyday.

I'm sorry to hear that... There was a reason you stayed and you didn't even know it at the time... That's a sad story... To the op, the greatest feeling for your pop is to know you appreciated what he did and to see you happy. It will mean a hell of a lot more then you know to him to do that. Not saying youre not grateful but just makes sure he knows.

Thats great, Welcome to the site. The best thing is to learn about your truck, Pop the hood look around real good. Get a manual for your truck. Keep a well managed record for everythning you do to the truck. Take your Father out to dinner as well. Sound like a great Dad.

Congrats on the truck! It's nice to hear a young guy who doesn't want anything handed to him. Your Dad did a good job! Try and get some pictures up.
