Default Why does Sync update require running engine?

Am I reading this right? Up to an hour? I rarely drive that far. I can't believe there's a software update that is contributing to global warming!

Yes that is correct it rebooted like 10 times during update.

But why does the engine need to be running for the duration of this?

I have no proof that this is the reason, but could running the engine be the only certain way to keep the battery saver from engaging and turning power off to the unit right in the middle of the update?

if you just turn you key on the truck will shut down the stereo after about 10 min or so to protect the battery. this might not be long enough to do the sync update.

So that's it- isolated systems and one not smart enough to know what the other is doing. Got it. As a programmer, this hurts my head.

Is there a way to fool it? I'm guessing if the power saving system doesn't know if SYNC is running, then SYNC doesn't know if the truck is running.

Its to prevent the vehicle from going to sleep. the graphic files on reflashes like this are usually very large and require a long duration to reflash. If the vehicle goes to sleep during this process, the reflash could be incomplete and the system could possibly not function.

I was always thinking I could turn the key on but not start the truck and have a battery charger on the battery that way I would not have to run the engine for an hour. Just wondering if this would work.

I was thinking more along the lines of opening and closing a door to reset the wait time, but then that is dependent on my remembering to do it... I'm not the type to sit still and drink a beer watching my truck reboot. I'd probably be in the attic checking my insulation thickness when I remember.

Maybe I'll sit in the truck with my iPad and watch NetFlix.
