2011 F150 XL 4x4 5.0L
Just to the right of the ignition switch there are five small parallel slits in the panel. Behind them you can see a sensor, or some other type of electrical device. What is that device for? I have the basic AC so I don't think it's for climate control. Trying to figure it out so that when I manage to spill something in there I know what to fix. Thanks.

Its not a seatbelt chime. Its the auto climate control sensor. They make all the trim pieces standard. So all trucks have these slots in that piece of trim. I do not have auto climate control...so when I had that piece off...there was nothing there.

What your saying makes sense except that I have the basic AC...no automatic climate control. If you zoom in on the left picture you can see there is something electrical back there. Kind of like an old wafer transistor. I admit I have never taken the panel off. Could Ford have put that sensor in anyway? Seems kind of odd for an XL build. Maybe it's the end of the harness that the sensor would mate to?

Take the panel off and see I guess. I had mine off not too long ago, and tere was nothing there. I also have basic ac(I have an stx) however in my 04 lariat behind that panel was the sensor for the auto climate control. I also didn't know what it was at the time, so I looked it up in audatex(a collision repair software for body shops...I work at one) and it said "auto climate control sensor. " They may have changed it since...if so, then I am wrong! Haha!

This is a common assumption apparently! Haha!! I have an empty void back there. But I still have the warning chimes and turn signal clicking noise.

Here you go. This is my truck though...I cat say the same for everyone else.(I am installing a ktp-445u amp later today anyway, so I need my dash apart anyway)

"Vent/slots" in question

I grabbed here and pulled out, towards me.

Then I grabbed here as well, and gave a quick tug

Now with the panel completely off, you can see back there, I have nothing. In the background you can see the dash board frame.

Hope this helps.
