Default Water based Ford paint ?

My neighbor just picked up his new f250 and was told Ford now uses a water base paint and no clear coat so he would have to purchase their hand applied sealer for an additional $1200 which he did !!! By the way, it's black paint.
Please tell me it ain't so !

I don't see why they wouldn't be using water based paint, it's been the industry norm for quite a few years. The part about not having a clear coat sounds like BS to me.

Sounds like your buddy needs to go back to the dealership and get his $1200 back.

Just a paint protection, just a dealer up charging for it to make more money, at our dealership its only like $500. Basically over priced wax.

Dishonest as HELL! As "dude" said, water based paint has been the norm since late 80's. The "no clear coat" statement is completely false.

He won't likely get his $$ back, so he should do everything in his power to give the dealer a black eye and prevent them from getting future business from as many people who will listen to him.

Sadly there are still "sales people" who will take the upcharge on a one time gouge rather than the continuous sales from satisfied customers who keep returning.

Makes no sense at all. Sounds like just another option that is completely unnecessarily they can make a bunch of extra money on.
