Default Tweeter Replacement

i was looking at the JL C5 tweeters but not really wanting to spend a buck 50. Wondering what else y'all have installed that fit in the pillars that's decent and won't brake the bank?

Also, would they be plug and play or do I need crossovers ect? I'd think not since I'm just replacing the stock tweeters, but not sure where they're powered from, where the stock crossover would be ect. Ya, I'm running the stock head unit. The Kicker Soundgate system came in my truck, and I replaced all the doors with Alpine Type R 6x9s. Sounds pretty damn decent, just need some tweeters. Thanks guys

I just put Kicker KST25's in my pillars. They come with an inline crossover. When I was in there I wasn't able to find the factory crossover, so I just hooked up as they were. Haven't noticed any issues with it.

Unfortunately its not plug-n-play. Had to cut the two wires going to each factory tweeter and then solder them to the kicker tweeter harness. Also the KST25s are 1" tweeters and wouldn't fit behind the speaker grille. Easiest way I found to mount was to take the factory grille out and then dremel out the opening just enough to squeeze them in. They're in there pretty darn snug so I don't expect them to ever come out.

I'm not an audiophile but there was a noticeable improvement with much crisper and louder highs. Little details pop out more. Any tweeter would be better than factory. My tweeters had a purple and green wire going to them; I wasn't able to find out what exactly was positive and negative so I just wired up green as positive and purple as negative.

I installed JBL GTO19T in the apillars with my Sony system. Used dremel to enlarge the hole a little. Looks like stock. I connected the JBL wires to the stock wires. $41 on Amazon.

I wish my 11 had the pillar tweeters. My work truck has them and it definitely sounds better. Is it hard to add them?

Consider the JL C2 tweeters. They fit nicely in the a pillar with only a slightly amount of trimming. They are silk domes like the C5s and very smooth. They also come with the passive crossover and would be fairly easy to connect to the factory warranty.

Bit the bullet on the JBL GTO19T. Was considering the JL Audio C2s - found them for $89 bones but the JBLs were $41 with Amazon Prime and get this...the JBL GTO19T and the JL C2s retail for the same price. Specs were very similar. I'm sure it'll be just fine for what I'm looking for. Looking forward to the install, I'll let you know what I think once I get them in.

I think you will like the JBLs. Made a big difference for me. I used a Dremel to enlarge the hole a little and used silicone adhesive to secure them.

when you all say enlarge the hole do you mean the back?

Is the screen covering the factory tweeter part of the pillar and the tweeter sits behind it or is the screen actually the tweeter?

You have to actually make the opening in the pillar itself bigger. I have the JL C2 components and with a quick dremel, it took enough and made it a very snug fit. The trim ring on the tweeters cover up the holes completely, but aren't so big that they exceed the sides of it if that makes sense.
