I'm currently looking into getting a toolbox for my 2013 XLT, and after looking at the different toolbox options out there, I couldn't help but wonder what kinds of toolboxes everyone here has, and what you keep in them. Pictures are definitely a plus.

 

I have a chest type box from Tractor Supply right now. I really need to get a crossover box to free up some bed space. I have looked at a lot of boxes and keep gravitating to the Weatherguard. In comparison, the others are flimsy and I think would be cracked or broken in short order for what I carry.

I have two 6 foot 1/0 copper grounding jumpers, log chain, chain hoist, brush hook, 2# hammer, several cans of marking paint, tool belt w/tools, socket set, warning ribbon, misc. steel hardware (5/8th bolts and such), bolt cutters, files, chainsaw, 100' tape measure, two different sizes of trailer hitches, & other misc. items such as rain gear and Carhartts.

 

I have the Lowes brand over the rail type and love it. I got the upgraded one with the pull handles on both sides that lock.

It's not as tough or as sealed as the WeatherGuard unit I had on my Cummins diesel, but that was $800 .vs $200 for the Lowes brand "Better Built" by the way I pealed off the lame Better Built logo and replaced it with an OEM Ford tailgate oval.

I keep about 300-400 lbs of my tools for work in there, so far so good, would buy again. Sorry no pic as I'm working right now, but the whole thing is diamond plate.

 

I've got the 6.5 bed in the FX4 and I purchased the below rail cargo box style. I had to fabricate a base for the box to elevate the box above the bed about 2" so it would fit. The fuel filler comes into the bed and prevents the box from setting directly on the bed.

 

So you think the Lowes/Betterbuilt is tough enough? I have been eyeballing them for some time. I am just hesitant thinking I should just hold out for the Weatherguard. Weatherguards around here are anywhere from $600 - $650 and the Lowes with the "door handle" latches are about $300. I have some expensive tools, some mine and some company, that I would really hate to have stolen, but two Betterbuilts to one Weatherguard...just thinking.

I'm planning on getting a Highway Products box for my '12 screw.

 

My plans are to get a UWS Low Profile Black 72", but may have to look into other brands. A friend just went to go buy a chest style UWS and said the welds looked like crap and the handles felt like Walmart brand crap and ended up not buying it. But on the other hand, I have 3 other friends with UWS boxes and they love them.
