Point taken, at this rate looks like I'll have a zerk fitting machined into the spline to be able to just hit it with my grease gun!

Yep, was the driveshaft spline deal. They are putting a small kit that'll cost me $18 and lubricating it. Thanks for all the replies and help, it's greatly appreciated.

I have a brand new 2014 4x4 Crew Cab with 6.5' bed and mine is doing the clunk or thunk exactly as you describe! I brought it back to the dealer with less than 1000 miles. The Service Advisor and the Mechanic were able to replicate the problem and then proceeded to relubricate the U-joint. It did not solve the problem. Once they realized they could not correct it, then they began describing it as "normal". I had such high hopes and Ford prides itself on quality. I saved for this truck for years and now I hate it when people ask me how I like my new truck. I don't know what else to do.

Glad to hear this is being taken care of! If you have any questions moving forward, please send them my way.

I think I know what to do! I'll get this escalated to the regional customer service manager for your area. Please send a private message with your full name, VIN, current mileage, servicing dealership, and best daytime contact number. I'll get started once I receive this information.

A week and a half ago I purchased a really nice 2012 F150 XLT Supercrew with the 5.0 Flex Fuel V8 with 82,000 miles. When I test drove the truck I noticed the "clunk", but did not pay any attention to it. Now that I've owned it for a few days, I kept wondering what in the heck the noise was. Today I joined the forum specifically for the purpose of trying to determine what the "clunk" noise is under normal acceleration. Now I'm really glad I joined because the descriptions everyone has posted certainly seems to be the exact problem I'm having. Next week I'll have the spline greased and hopefully, this will cure the problem. Thanks very much everyone. Dennis

Wow, what a great forum! I did exactly what was suggested; grease the spine with a heavy duty grease. Actually I had it done at a local shop. Took them less than 30 minutes. I even supplied the grease. Now the clunk is gone. Thanks to everyone who said to grease the spline. Dennis
