Could this also be an issue in a 2010?

This can happen to any vehicle with a slip yoke. On my 03 Duramax, I had to remove the yoke every 6 months or so.

On my Duramax, I thought about drilling and tapping a hole for a grease zerk. Only problem was there was no way for the grease to travel all the way around the splines.

I would still lube it. Quick and easy to do.

Hey all! What I suggest is having your local dealerships take a look at your trucks for diagnosis. Feel free to use this tool to locate one nearby and schedule an upcoming appointment. Then, please fill me in with the details, including the outcome of the dealer trip, the full name of the registered vehicle owner, the VIN, model year and mileage, servicing dealership, and best daytime contact number. I'll use this information to investigate any available options.

HEY FORD, FIND A FIX, STOP WITH THE BANDAGES!

I understand how this could be frustrating, Wayne! I'm here to help. What's the model year of your truck? Please fill me in with any updates since visiting the dealership; if this is a persistent concern, I'll check my resources for the best next steps.

Just did this on a 99 Ranger. Worked like a charm...
Funny thing is, I had the driveshaft off 6 months ago to redo the u-joints, felt how smooth the slip joint moved and thought "Nah, can't be that". Went to sell the truck a couple weeks ago and realized the clunk would scare buyers, thinking the diff was shot. I figured what the heck, so, 45 mins and 2 tablespoons of grease later, the clunk is completely gone. Some recommend teflon grease (PTFE) or a grease with MOLY. I found a small tube of CV grease with MOLY at O'Reilly.
