Sync Text Messages
As some have mention - you have to (sometimes) follow the goofy "connect - disconnect - reboot" process shown in the one syncmyride link. I too have an iphone 5 with IOS 6.1 - and in order to get txt's to show on MFT or over the speakers, the first time - in order to see the "notifications" thing on the actual iphone, I had to follow that weird process.
Has been working well ever since without having to go through that weird process again.
Lastly -one MINOR function that doesn't work right is, if you have it working, and get a txt, you either have to hit view/listen right away when the box appears - or it'll go away. Then, you're only able to either use the touch screen to find the messages section to view it - or just look at your phone. Trying to use the VOICE CONTROL to have it read messages (which are showing as new on the MFT indicator display) returns a message from "the voice" that says text messaging isn't supported by your phone. Very weird - since it will read them if you tell it to as soon as a message comes in - but not if you let it sit and try to have it read it aloud later through voice command.

I did all this but get a message on my truck that says "Does not support this bluetooth"
Is there a chance it has to do with the area? when I was in Florida, I could not use the text feature with my Galaxy II, and had the not supported message. On my way to NY I received texts in a few areas. Now while in NY it doesn't work again.
Well now that Jailbreak has been released for iPhone 5 I have found an app in Cydia called Aloud which is very customizable and among other things will read notifications including text messages. It even did it with Sirius playing.
So until Ford releases an update for my overpriced navigation system the underground iOS development community has saved the day.
If you use aloud along with another app called SBProfiles them you can configure it so Aloud turns on only when connected to SYNC. Be forewarned though. It appears that SBProfiles is having some issues right now but seeing as the Jailbreak was just released I imagine that an update will be coming soon. I just emailed the developer to inquire into whether he planned to update for iOS 6.

Once i turned on the 'Show Notifications' under the synch on the bluetooth menu of the phone (iPhone 5) it worked fine.
Personally if it does not work for you IMO you are not missing anything.
When a text is received the system makes a sound and a message pops up on the screen, it gives you the option to listen, ignore or delete, i think. If you listen it dulls the radio, so it is still playing in the background and reads the text, if your synch volume is low then you will not hear it and have to play again.
Siri on the iPhone I think works a lot better as it mutes everything as if you were on a call.
Just my thoughts
