Default Sync microphone died. Do I swap or replace?

The replacement sync microphone in my 2010 Harley Edition died completely a few weeks ago.
Looking through the web for info on this hasn't turned up a bunch of info but it seems many are having issues with the 'doodle bug' microphone from the Service Bulletin update.
One guy said he went through 3 before getting one that worked, etc.

I found some info about replacing the 'bug' with the 'recessed in the headliner' version like is on the newer builds.
The recessed microphone seems to be part number "AT4Z19A391AJ Microphone" and then a bezel around it, part number "AT4Z-9904082-B".

Has anyone else here tried this replacement? My warranty is long up with the miles I put on the truck (42,000).
My other option would be just to buy another of the 'doodle bug' microphones but if they only last a year.... or maybe try to figure out how they disconnected the microphone in the mirror and hook that one back up.
I did read someplace where someone left both microphones connected and they had success but another source said the Service Bulletin states to disconnect the mirror microphone as the circuit has some impedance or power limit.

Any comments for me? Has anyone tried the newer replacement part and if so was it simple plug-n-play or did it require chasing wiring or splicing?

Thanks for reading my post.

No idea or thoughts for me?
As the 2010s get on in years I think this will become more of an issue.
If I figure it out I will post back here.

No idea, I had my microphone in the headliner next to the sunglass holder go out, but after removing the sunglass box, (simply tug on it) I found the microphone wires came disconnected. The connector is about 6 inches from the microphone, Plugged it back in and no worries ever since. I never knew there was one in the rear view mirror.

All you have to do is tug?? Could you please explain further?

I have the same black "doodle bug" mic because of the TSB and even thou it works good it looks ugly. So I have been wanting to change it out for the recessed one but needed part numbers and how to remove the sunglasses holder.

Does anyone have the different part #'s for the different headliner colors?

TASCA....get in here. LOL

Ya, I actually thought it was my phone bluetooth at first so I did all the reset stuff to trouble shoot it and it still wasn't working, so then I tried using the voice commands with Sync and they didn't work either.

By Master reset you mean pull the fuse? Or the reset in the Sync screen itself? I did both but I may have missed something in the setup screens though. What did you do for a master reset?

I found the part numbers for the different trim colors on another site. I will post a link later when I get back to the computer I saved them on. I think it was a Ford Fusion forum or something like that.

Just pull down on the rear side of the sunglasses holder and it will pop out down. The first time its a bit tight but mine pops in and out easily now after several radar detector hard wires and now this microphone chase. I took a picture of the holder hanging down, maybe I can figure out how to post it for you.
