Sync GEN 1 – VERSION 4.2.1.4 Software Update
Sync GEN 1 – VERSION 4.2.1.4 Software Update
*DR3T-14D544-AE: This new software will provide the following enhancements to SYNC® system & includes: Updated Bluetooth device connectivity; Improved system stability; Improved media player functionality; Enhanced voice recognition capabilities; Optimized for use w/Apple iOS 6 for incoming text messaging. This update includes improvements from all previous SYNC updates such as flattened phone grammar, improvements in device indexing, text messaging capabilities w/the implementation of message access profile (MAP), and more.
This is a DEALER ONLY installed update and is not shown on the Sync owner website.
According to FordIVTteam post #126 of this thread: https://www.f150forum.com/f38/attent...26189/index13/ ,it applies to both standard and navigation based Gen1 Sync systems.
1. My first question is for the forum members:
How many people have this update installed and did it change/update/resolve any issues that you were having with your Sync Gen1 system?
Please share your experience.
2. My other questions are for FordIVTteam:
Why is this update a dealer only installed update that dealers can charge to install?
Why wasn't I informed of this available update when I asked about Gen1 updates in Post #31 of this thread https://www.f150forum.com/f38/can-sy...228929/index4/ ?
Why has this update not been "officially" released to the Ford ownership public and made available for download and USB install, like the just-released MFT update?
The updates/enhancements/improvements that are mentioned in the release notes should address the majority of the issues that owners are having, if it truly does resolve the issues.
FordIVTteam, please enlighten us.

I took delivery of my 2013 on Monday and it is not compatible with Apple text messaging - dealer said it was "an apple thing, not a sync thing". I'm not sure what version my software is.

So yes, it should apply to your '12 with Sync.

Edit: If you have the MyFord Touch system, the iPhone 4, 4S and 5 are supported for SMS text messaging as follows:
Sync will read your incoming text messages.
Sync will Respond with a variety of preset outgoing text messages.
With MFT you can Customize the preset outgoing text messages.

another member and I are having the same experience
if you ever swap devices on USB2 while the truck is on (or even unplug the device then plug it right back in) sync will no longer recognize that a device is plugged into USB2 even though it will charge and the radio display will say "USB2 Device removed" if you unplug it again.
Also if you have a device plugged into USB2 and also put a device on the USB port in the dash (USB1 to me) and switch sync to USB1 you will NOT be able to return to USB2 unless you remove the device from USB1 (the other member's truck wouldnt even do that.)
If the truck stops recognizing the USB2 device for any reason listed above the fix is to unplug anything thats in USB1, turn the truck off, open a door, close it again then start the truck (or put the key in the run position) and it will recognize the USB2 device (as long as it was plugged back in BEFORE putting the key in the run position again)
