Default Speaker distorting

I've an issue with the speaker in the drivers door, even at a low volume its distorting.

Anyone know if it just means the speaker is on its way out and needs replaced, or is it something else F150 related?

Thanks

The speaker is probably blown.
Could be tweeter or bass. Turn bass control all the way down -does distortion continue? maybe then it would indicate the tweeter side is blown.

Swap left and right speakers to do a final confirmation it is that speaker and not the left channel.

Yeah, not unheard of for them to blow, mind it should be relatively obvious by looking at it, easy enough to pull the door card to see.

My right front blew twice within the warranty period, but as cheap as they are you might just want to upgrade to a more robust aftermarket speakers. Got a set of pioneers 7-8 years ago and have had no issues since.

I had similar issue in my 2014 so I replace all speakers. About a year later, the replacements sounded blown, crackly. Turns out it was the connectors. They were oxidized. I cut off the factory connectors and soldered some new ones on, and that cured the problem.

may be worth isolating the speaker in question while the door panel is off, and check the wiring. Could be a “ no parts needed” fix (quote taken from Pine Hollow Diagnostics).

If you google f150 speaker cutting out, there are threads that talk about molex issues, only solutions are 1) replace door side molex harness, 2) bypass molex by running new wire, 3) repin molex and make sure it is good.

If you replaced your speakers though AND used the Metra speaker adapters, those have also been known to cause issues

Did both - connectors first, better, but still some fuzz, so off to Crutchfield, and replaced all speakers. Improved quite a bit, but then exposed the stock head unit's limitations...ah well.
