I only pull once a year at the local fair, but our rules mandate that we have a twisted clevis. I don't know if it matters at most pulls or not.

Also I bought the hitch pin at harbor freight do you think it should be strong enough?

That's what I was thinking about doing, I think it's the cheapest option. I don't think I have to worry about the hitch breaking right?
Pick a good quality hitch. Probably a forged 12,000lb with 4" drop flipped upside down would be good

im shocked they require a twisted clevis. Normally as long as it's a clevis its fine.

Your truck won't break either of the common $25 parts shown above. Mine And your hooked together couldn't break it. You'll be fine.

official size is 3.75 inches or bigger
How are clevis measured? The only ones I find say 3/8, 5/8, 7/8. They don't say 3.75 inch on the spec sheet.

The only one I found that list the 3 inch size is at TSC:

I'm going to guess the first number is either the pin and/or the bar diameter. The second number is the diameter (or radius?) of the clevis loop.

Try searching on Ebay for "clevis". You can also use the term "shackle" which I believe is more correct.
