I'd skip the hook and go with a 10k rated hitch with a 2-5/16" ball. Cheaper and stronger. That said, your receiver will be the next weak point. Yea, I destroyed a receiver too once. Totally destroyed it and ended up having to cut it apart to get the thing off the truck. You are allowed to use a rise which will help to plant the back of the truck, but I've seen these get bent as well.

You didn't have enough power in 2nd LOW? Some reason I have a hard time believing that...are you sure you weren't in high??

As a former tractor puller, low 1 isn't low enuf. Sled is heavy. Hard to believe until you do it.

I did it in 2nd low with my 1997 F350 with the 7.5 460 with only 250hp and wished I would have been in third. I had to let off the gas to keep from over revving

I thought he was referring to f150. I had f250 97 7.3 with 4.10 and 2 was low but 3rd felt like clutch abuse. Only pulled it once. I had a mini mod to play with. It was 429 based.

As for the hitch I read that some places don't allow a ball hitch? What would be the best option?

Ball hitch wouldn't be allowed for super stock and above. Generally they allow the street guys to use ball hitch with a clevis through the hole.

Sorry... corrected my response. A ball hitch won't work because the sled has a hook on it that will drop into the clevis.

a ball would not be allowed it's a giant hook you need something that looks like this.

http://www.pullingproducts.com/adjustablesledhitch.aspx

or a clevis a larger clevis I think our's is a 5 inch clevis bolted threw an hitch with adjustable heights

official size is 3.75 inches or bigger
