Looking at a 2010 Scab
hello all,
Thinking about taking the plunge on a 2010 scab. I am coming for a 06 tundra that was recently totaled. I have driven the screw bit its just a little big length wise for what I want.
Looking at an FX4 or maybe an XLT.
What do you like about you truck? What don't you like? what woudl you do differently is you had it to do again.
I definitely like the the dash and controls over the current tundra.
Not a huge fan of the seats, my wife hates the head rests. I am trying to reconcile the suicide doors to access the back of the cab. had them on my o6 tundra and really did not care for them.
But I really do like the sync system. I have snooped around the site some. Trying to get a feel for the real world gas mileage of this truck. Would be happy if it were comparable to my old tundra. Which was a solid 16 in mixed driving.
I appreciate any input
Thanks
North

I also have the Screw, and get about the same mileage as OD52 does with my 3v 4.6L XLT 4x2, which is around 15 - 16 city depending on how i drive and how much i sit in traffic and could probably get more if i took it easy, on the highway, i get a solid 21 - 22 cruising at 65, but it drops down to about 18 - 19 when going at 80 like on the interstates around me.
Good choice on the ford IMO, i drove both a 2009 tundra crewmaxx and whatever the extra cab one was, and both a 2010 ford Scab and Screw, i really enjoyed the ride of both the fords over the toyota, only thing i liked more about the tundra was that it was very quick, but in the end, its a truck, and not for going fast. Everything else about the Ford was superior in my mind.
Good luck getting something you like.

I was looking at the yotas too. My big turn off with them was actually the dealer's fault - they were snobby. I was looking at the tacos, the tundras just seem bulky & the dash not very well laid out. price was another 7 features was the biggie. was way too hard to get into a yota without spending over 30 grand.
I didn't test drive the tundra, so I can't compare that. the taco was ok, but the f150, to me, was good too. overall, you have some more options & pkgs to pick from, so you can make this as cheap, expensive, or combo of features as you want. I didn't see were you had as much leeway with that on the yotas. it's either a plain jane 2wd or SR5/TRD 4x4.
both trucks seem to have their issues, from some of the complaints i've seen. I took mine in to get the 6sp trans reprogrammed to correct a shifting issue & sony sold ford a bad batch of CD players (haven't even used mine, use the ipod with sync). those seem to be the 2 complaints right now on the '10s.
the tundra has a bit bigger engine / hp over the 150s right now. safety wise, both seem pretty good. I will say that repair bills for front end damage, from what I've seen here, have been kinda high, but that's expected with all of the stuff they put on them & the design absorbs the crash instead of you.
I found toyota's side by side comparison pg kinda useful: http://www.toyota.com/compare/?model...dra#h_overview
summary: buy what you like, can afford, fits your needs the best. the F150 seems like a better fit for me.

Wow, that's a very deceptive tool. Did not expect that from Toyota. I pulled up a 2010 screw Lariat to compare and alot of items that were standard on my truck were listed as either "optional", "not available" or "not listed". I call "BS". Guess it's typical for a manufacturer to try to make their truck look better when comparing it against another. Just expected them to be more honest though.

I would not buy a Scab. The Screw is the only way to go. Not only is there more room inside the Screw it is in my opinion better on resale. Also if you go with a Screw with a 5.5 ft bed it should not be much bigger that a Scab. JMO.

The new F150s ride like luxury liners. They are awesome! This is my fourth F150. My others had 100 + k miles and they were still running strong.
I have a suggestion. If you don't need leather and all that crap in a pickup truck, and don't need to brag about what model you have, check out a well optioned STX. They look nearly identical to an FX4 and cost thousands less. Use the savings for investiments, other toys, or etc. I just bought my STX 4x4 with power everything, 6sp auto, 3v 4.6, heavy duty towing package, trailer towing package, STX decore package (fog lights, 18 inch FX4 wheels, etc.), rear slider, and some other goodies for 26k out the door! It stickered for 34.9k.

The SCAB in 09+ has alot more room than the 04-08, i beleive 6inches inside? I went from an 08 STX SCAB to a 10 SCREW. I love the room! Its not any longer just less bed and more cab.
Why does she hate the head rests? Does she actually put her head against it? I cant say i know many people that do.
Id go XLT because you can get a 3.55 rear end to be a little nicer to the gas than the 3.73 in the FX4's.
If you dont need 4x4 the FX2 is very nice (picked mine up yesterday).
And i did the STX thing and i didnt like mine all that much. They seem very plain but are essentially the same truck. My new FX2 is leaps and bounds over the STX i had, im in love!
My FX2 with only 400 miles on it was getting 19.5 mpg at 65. (5.4L 3.55)
