Looking at a 2010 Scab
We all use our trucks for different things, I need the 6 1/2 ft box, my kids are gone so I don't need the screw but think it's a great looking truck. I'm getting @ 18 mpg mixed driving.
Navytev is right, my '10 scab seems to have more room than my '04.

the newer cabs do seem bigger to me overall, esp. the scabs. the only thing that's a space hog is the rear facing seat. my son only has about 6 mos to go & I can turn the seat around.
but I'm only getting 13-14 mixed, but that's only a little highway so far, only drive a few mi to work, in town.

Thanks for all the information. Has given me a lot to think about. I have an 2010 FX4 Super Cab for a extended test drive over the weekend. I almost bought it yesterday but wanted to see if I could really deal with the suicide doors and the extended cab over the Screw.
We test drove a lariat Screw yesterday too very very nice. its just the 2 of us so we are trying to justify the extra cost of the Screw over the Scab. That between 2 and 3K depending on how the Screw is optioned over the current Scab I am test driving. Regardless of the truck I buy I will put a canopy on it and a bed liner. That difference in can go a long ways towards buying those items and once i have a canopy the space n the cab is slightly less important. It will then revolve around extra passenger comfort for thise rare times when more than just my wife and I a traveling in the truck.
The Scab I am driving is option exactly like I would want a truck to be. I really like the FX4 interior over the XLT. I actually did not think I would like the black but to my surprise I really prefer it.
The truck I am test driving is blue which is my color I like best of all the available Ford colors. It drives nice and the only reservation i have ids teh suicide doors on the super cab.
Something I really did not like on my 06 Tundra and I really liked that truck.
I do need the 4 x 4 and I really would prefer the 6.5 foot bed. I have wrestled with going to the 5.5 ft bed. But I like to camp out of the back of the truck sometimes and sleeping in and wedging my 6'4' frame into a 6.5" bed is not all the comfortable.
So I am going to give this truck drive time today. See how I feel about the Scab. They can find me a tuxedo black Screw. Just black is not a color I really want. So I am searchingthe net to see if there are any other Screw options out there.
To close I went to the Ford dealer yesterday. Torn between a F150 and a Tundra. Having test drove both more than once I was still on the fence. We got into the FX4 that is setting in my garage and by the time we were heading back to the dealer it was clear the F150 was the way to go. Not to disparage the Tundra they are nice trucks their interior and ride quality is just not quite up to Fords right now. The only thing Ford has screwed teh pooch on is thos stupid suicide doors in my opinion.
I know rambled on a bit here. I really appreciate everyone thoughts on this. Its good to take in other owners opinions when trying to make a decision.
Thanks again,
North

I don't want to start another thread like we had before about the Tundra, I think it's a great looking truck and you can't go wrong with it..but I found this article last night...I would be curious if you ask the Toyota dealer your dealing with if there is any truth here or if this is just more BS...this link was actually on a tundra forum

5. Death to the Tundra
Some of The Mechanic's best friends drive Toyota Tundras. And Mrs. The Mechanic has frequently been seen behind the wheel of the Tundra-based Sequoia SUV. But forget it. The Tundra is doomed.
During 2009 the Tundra sold at about one-fifth the rate that Ford sells F-150s. In fact, Toyota isn't going to move more than about 75,000 of them during 2009, though it had predicted volumes somewhere around 200,000 when it opened that nice, expensive plant to build the truck in San Antonio. Considering that the big, bad second-generation Tundra has been a turd for Toyota, it's likely there won't be a third-generation Tundra.
Toyota is already moving the compact Tacoma into the San Antonio plant. It ought to just add a V8 option to that truck.
Look for: Toyota will announce the Tundra's pending death sometime around April.

Yeah I have seen that in the Tundra forum when I was doing my research on it. Who knows what is true there, It did not really factor into my decision.
As you mentioned I don't want this thread to go down the path of the Gas Mileage thread. My experience in the search is Ford, Dodge and Toyota (The 3 brands I researched and drove) all build a good truck.
For myself personally when I sat in the Ford over the other 2 it was the one I could see my self owning over the long haul. Assuming I would not trade it in. In the scenario where I would trade it in, they show having a good residule value not quite as good as Toyota but very close.
Thats the major difference for me in buying a truck this time vs 4 years ago. Then it was hands down the Toyo was the way to go. But thats not the case anymore.

I paid cash for my truck. If I bought the FX4 or platinum, I would be stuck with payments like so many other people in debt.
So, to each his own, I'm just throwing another option out there. I mean really, even if you drive a 55k dollar platinum or FX4, you're still driving a Ford 150 as far as anyone is concearned. Now, if this were a BMW M3, I'd say 40 - 50k is a bargain, but a pickup truck? I'd be afraid to scratch the darn thing let alone take it in the mud or put plywood in the back.
Just sayin'
I have a 09 SCab XLT 4X4 and I love it. Right now it is just me and the wife, no kids yet. I have had 5 men in the truck and we all had room. I just wish Ford would have put some double hinges on back doors like the Chevy's have
. That is a great feature.
. That is a great feature.
Well, yes, if plain means power mirrors, power door locks, keyless entry, power windows, decent stereo system, cruise control, stability control, trailer sway control, shift on the fly 4x4, 3:73 gears, towing package, a nicely tailored interior, oh, and about 25 grand extra in the bank!

My 08 STX has everything you mentioned, minus the trailor sway, TCS, and mine was only 4x2. I spent 6k more on my FX2 than on my STX. It was very worth it to me. But the new STX is alot nicer than the previous year models. In just 07-08 the STX was nicer than the 04-06. Its just nice to have the bells and whistles, some chrome inside and i love the flow through console!
