I wanted to post my install along with the information you will need to get your iPod to display in landscape mode as well as a couple of other tweaks.

Installing it is pretty straight forward, pop off the trim and take out the trailer brake controller or cubby thing and use some double sided tape to hold the iPod to the backside of the trim. I used some soft packing foam I had lying around and put it on the back of the iPod so it would keep pressure on the iPod in case the tape failed so it won’t move around. I routed the USB cable up to the USB 2 port with a mini USB to Female USB adapter.

Now for the iPod tweaks. You have to jailbreak the iPod to do this. Just Google it and you can find how to do this easy enough. After you have done that you need to install the following tweaks via cydia. You can Google them if you need to find the sources. My iPod is a 1st gen so I couldn’t use some of the more recent tweaks. I should upgrade soon

- SBrotator enables you to rotate the home screen.
- LSRotator enables you to rotate your lock screen. Unless you don’t mind unlocking your iPod sideways. ha-ha
- SleepDepriver makes your iPod never sleep. I like to have apps running while driving like my OBDII app or screensaver so I didn’t want it to go to sleep.
- Activator lets you do custom commands. I set it to lock when it stops getting power so I don’t have to do it when I get out. I also set it to unlock when it gets power so it goes to the home screen automatically when I start my truck.

All in all I am happy with it, but I will probably pick up a newer iPod so it can do some more fine tuning as far as jail breaking it. Thanks to jrdejavux for the idea!!!
that looks awesome! great idea. to bad there is no allocated spot for this on the 2010's

What the posting does not explain is what are you connecting the ipod touch to in the truck? Where is the connector located?
What "app" is showing the data from the truck? Where did you download the "app"?

I can appreciate the information in the posting but its only a partial of the information to install the ipod touch to read the data.

I think you need to go back and read all the comments as well as the post again. There have been countless people that have mentioned where to get a wifi OBDii adapter. It's your choice, just like what app you want to use.

I clearly said how I hooked it up via the usb 2 connection and using a usb cable. Also the connection is on the bottom of the ipod where apple has put it since they first started making ipods decades ago... (duh). Please go back and read it again if you missed it.

Please stop complaining that the information doesn't meet your high standards and go do some research just like everybody else on here to find out what will meet your needs the best. I didn't write this post just for you so I would appreciate it if you would stop being a jerk because you don't think I put enough or the correct information. Simply ask a question and be... What's the word.. Oh nice, about it. You may just get a good response with the information you want...

Every single bit of information required was not in your first post... Didn't you know that automatically makes it useless..? lol. Some people just don't appreciate a good post man.

Also, what did you use to jailbreak your ipod? I too have a 1st gen touch (OS 4.2.1) and I've tried 2 different programs with no luck...?

All of the apps I have tried will not download. Its a change apple made and they don't seem to want and fix them.

I also have a iphone 5 and it works great with a wifi obd and dash command.

Jail breaking will not fix apples problem, the jailbreak will make the screen rotation, the home screen mod, and sleep work like the op wants.

Im not sure if ipod 4.2.1 is the same as iphone 4.2.1 but Im pretty sure that's what the problem is trying to download.

Ok, I had kind of guessed that OS 4.2.1 was the problem after a bit more reading... Thanks for confirming it. Know any way to go back to an older OS? lol

Haha, thanks man. I used redsn0w with my Mac but I think there is a Windows version. Most apps won't work on the 3.1.3 firmware anymore. Thanks apple...
