iPod Touch Installed in Trailer Brake Controller Spot
I installed my 1st Gen iPod Touch today in my 2012 FX4 where the Trailer Brake Controller is supposed to go. Most trailers I pull don’t have their own brakes so seemed like a good spot. Got the idea from "jrdejavux" so thanks!!
I wanted to post my install along with the information you will need to get your iPod to display in landscape mode as well as a couple of other tweaks.
Installing it is pretty straight forward, pop off the trim and take out the trailer brake controller or cubby thing and use some double sided tape to hold the iPod to the backside of the trim. I used some soft packing foam I had lying around and put it on the back of the iPod so it would keep pressure on the iPod in case the tape failed so it won’t move around. I routed the USB cable up to the USB 2 port with a mini USB to Female USB adapter.
Now for the iPod tweaks. You have to jailbreak the iPod to do this. Just Google it and you can find how to do this easy enough. After you have done that you need to install the following tweaks via cydia. You can Google them if you need to find the sources. My iPod is a 1st gen so I couldn’t use some of the more recent tweaks. I should upgrade soon
- SBrotator enables you to rotate the home screen.
- LSRotator enables you to rotate your lock screen. Unless you don’t mind unlocking your iPod sideways. ha-ha
- SleepDepriver makes your iPod never sleep. I like to have apps running while driving like my OBDII app or screensaver so I didn’t want it to go to sleep.
- Activator lets you do custom commands. I set it to lock when it stops getting power so I don’t have to do it when I get out. I also set it to unlock when it gets power so it goes to the home screen automatically when I start my truck.
All in all I am happy with it, but I will probably pick up a newer iPod so it can do some more fine tuning as far as jail breaking it. Thanks to jrdejavux for the idea!!!

Super clean and nice!
I just "acquired" my wifes Gen 1 iPod touch since she got an iPad, might have to look into this.
My questions is this.
Isnt it a PIA the remove it and load music on it? Since the iPod is new to me it does not have much music on it and I find myself updating it regularly. So, I imagine I would have to pop off the trim and remove it to bring it inside to update my playlist every time?

One Clean Machine
iTrader: (5)
I have the ipod touch 3rd gen, and when ever I purchase a song on my ipad or mac, it downloads automatically to my ipod touch over wi fi no need to unplug it or connect to a pc, I would think the gen 1 would be the same

Thanks everyone. Icloud and wireless sync is only available on IOS 4 and later and the 1st gen ipod touch only runs 3.1.3 with no more updates coming from Apple. I have a usb extension cable run down behind the drivers side kick panel on the console side and the ipod cable plugged in there. So for now I just bring my laptop out and plug it in. I'll take a pic if I'm out today and post it.
