The phone does, but can't play music without a usb cord
You should be able to play music via Bluetooth with the voice command "Bluetooth audio". If it doesn't work, there may have been some permissions that were not fully accepted during the initial pairing process.

Did you update to the latest iOS8 yet? If so, perform a clean pair. That is when you remove your iPhone's profile from SYNC (might as well remove your wife's phone too) and remove SYNC from the list of Bluetooth devices on your phone. From there, reboot your iPhone and pair it back up to SYNC, making sure you set it as primary and grant it any permissions requested. When you have an opportunity to pair up your wife's phone again, be sure that you say "No" to set as primary so your phone will automatically connect first.

Update: I took my truck in for an oil change and also asked if they could check SYNC. I was having issues where the Bluetooth would not work on the truck and after starting and turning it off a few times it would work again. I also had the problem with TXT not working on my IPhone 5 under Verizon.
So I started by updating the phone to ios8 and having the dealer check the SYNC. They did and found that there was a TSB 13-9-22 “SYNC Functionality Concerns” they updated the software and performed the TSB. Not sure what that all involved. At the end they told me that the system is working on their end and if I continue to have problems that I should check out http://support.apple.com/kb/ht6473 . They also told me that customers with SYNC equipped vehicles may experience Bluetooth connectivity issues after upgrading to ios8 or using an IPhone 6 with SYNC and this is not a SYNC hardware issue and Apple is aware of the issues and is working on a fix, blah blah blah.
I still did not have the “show notification” button on the IPhone 5 SYNC Bluetooth settings as seen in post #12. I then performed the procedure listed in post #45 and low and behold it worked. I must also say I do not have MFT, I have the three line radio and it still worked. I also did this procedure on my wife’s IPhone 4s and it worked.
I would like to thank whoever worked out this “put your left foot in and take your right foot out” procedure. He or she did something that Apple or Ford could or did not want to do.

Thanks again!

So I receive messages but I can not reply, only forward. Am I missing something? Also, when I try to send a new message it fails.

Default iphone5s

Tried to turn notifications on. It states my iphone 5s will is not compatible. I did not update iOS 8.1 as of yet. Is this the reason why?

I would try and remove SYNC from your phone and remove your phone from your truck
and start over using the procedure in post #45 and make sure you phone looks like the picture in post #12.

OK, new problem. I can still receive txt messages but can't reply. When I try it says that "for my safety that feature has been disabled while driving" or some crap like that.

What happened? or am I not doing something right?

Which year is your vehicle? Is it equipped with touch screen? What happens when you give the voice command "Reply to text"?

You want to force a completely new connection. I found these steps on another forum and fixed them up a little to help make them clearer and less ambiguous. The hardest part for me, when I was doing this was trying to figure out what to do on the phone and what to do on the truck.

Hope this helps!

1) Truck - Delete phone from BT device list.
2) Phone - Delete Sync from BT connection list.
3) Phone - Reboot. (Do steps 4 & 5 while you wait for this to finish)
4) Truck - Turn off, pull the key, open the door.
5) Truck - Close the door, restart.
6) Truck/Phone - Pair your phone fresh w/MFT. Let it finish.
7) Phone - Turn BT off.
8) Phone - Turn BT on.
9) Truck - Hit "connect" on the MFT screen to reconnect BT.
10) Phone - Go into the BT Profile Settings screen for Sync (little arrow to the right of Sync, in Settings, Bluetooth)
11) Phone - Set Notifications to "On".
12) Phone - Back up a screen and turn BT off again.
13) Phone - Turn BT back on.
14) Truck - Hit "connect" on the MFT screen again to reconnect to phone.
I DID THIS ON MY 2014 w/mft.... THIS IS AWESOME ...now receive text... Thanks

It's a 2013 STX, I don't have the touch screen and when I say reply to txt it seems like the system doesn't understand and if I use the menu on the radio to send a txt it says " for my safety this feature is not allowed" or something like that.
