Default Factory Tailgate Protector

Will the factory tailgate protector fit with the stripper pole deleted (with the the access cover installed)?

I was looking into this too....but was going to get the non-stripper pole tailgate protector because it lays flatter and I often use it as a workbench. Are you trying to keep the stripper pole one?...you would end up with a hole in it.

I already removed the stripper pole and have the flat access cover. I'm not going to be Line-X'ing the bed and tailgate for a while and wanted something to protect the tailgate in the meantime.

I don't believe you can line-x the tailgate with the step because of the extra hole(s) in it. That hole has to be covered. Maybe you could weld something to cover the hole.

All you gotta do it by the panel off a nonstepped tailgate.

I already have the non-step tailgate access cover installed and I have a large rubber insert for the only hole I was unable to use a bolt through.

What I am looking at is whether the plastic drop in liner's tailgate cover works on a pole delete mod until such time as I do Line-X the bed and tailgate.

I have a no step tailgate with liner... never seen a liner with the step tailgate but on mine the liner sits on the factory plastic all the way across. Not sure when you pull the step out if it will cause you an issue or not. Probably a bigger issue when you push the step back in...it may catch the liner. Hope this helps.

I bought the access panel to get rid of the stripper pole. I while I was at my dealer, I asked how much the plastic panel was and they just gave me one for free. I think they come with the drop in liner as a set and if the truck has the step, it comes with the one that fits the stripper pole so they have a few laying around. Otherwise, I've seen them on eBay for $35 shipped.
