Factory Nav Worth It?

Not worth it. My Droid X has a GPS and it updates at N/C. I hate to be held hostage and pay for updates. Also like all computers there are advancements in hardware that make older models obsolete. I can get a new phone that is advanced. I keep vehicles a long time and I like cutting edge gadgets. I like the I pad mount too!
I really like the Ipad mount idea. IMO It would be really nice if the dash design was a little more friendly on the trucks and could mount it up top with a remote control feature to give it a more integrated look.
That's really smart of you to do what you did though, actually. Since I opted out of the factory nav I was pondering how I could make up for it and that seems like the way to go.

Definately worth it!!! Just to clarify, Nav also gives traffic reports. I like it being integrated into the dash and designed for the truck. I think the IPAD is an awsome alternative and just as functional, but I don't like the thought of carrying the ipad in and out of the truck with all the other crap I have haul around. But it comes down to person prefference and finances.
With that being said, don't forget to look at the road once in a while!!! I am so tired of drivers being so pre-occupied with these gadgets that they are all over the road!!! I am guilty myself with this and make it a point to refrain from using the electronics.

Worth it. I have an iPad also, but I don't want it sitting in a mount inside my truck. The nav works great and controls more than just nav as others have said. Find a few people that actually have it and use it to tell you it's not worth it before you listen to people without it. I love mine.
I wish I had had the opportunity to have used the factory Nav unit in real life before ordering my truck. I bought a Platinum, which already came with the Sony radio upgrade, so the Nav option with that was $2495! I just couldn't justify that much money for even an interactive Nav system. For that much money I can buy a whole lot of Garmin's and accessories. I'm not knocking it, I just had to prioritize what was important for me.
I have a 2011 Raptor with Nav and yes, it is worth it. It is much more than a simple Nav. I have an iPod2 with Verizion service. While I love my iPad (using it now), the Ford Nav does so much more.
Just wondering if the guys who have the factory navigation think it was worth it or not? It seems that i cant find a truck like i want that has the nav in it so i've been thinking i should just pass on it maybe. Either that or i can keep looking until something comes along.
Don't forget with the Factory Nav you can set a destination by voice while driving from the steering wheel buttons. No need to fiddle with an iPad to update your route, that in some states will get you a ticket since it will be the same fine as playing with a phone, or no need to pull over to update the route, find gas, hotel, food, or anything in the database.
You also forgot to mention a added feature of having an ipad mounted on a rod in your truck. You have now added 2 objects that during an accident that can become airborne and cause you more damage when it hits you, your wife or your children. Also the first time you leave that iPad in the hot summer heat you can kiss that screen goodbye. It can not take it at all. It will crack the LCD panel or cause the Liquid Crystal to expand and bleed. The iPad has a max operating temp of 95 and non operating of 113.
I like that my Nav unit will not become a projectile in my truck and the screen has been built to take the heat.
Also, my Nav will be covered by my auto insurance if it is damaged during an accident or if it is stolen. That iPad is a high dollar accessory that they may not pay for and it adds to the appeal for someone to target your truck. Even if you put it out of view that huge mount tells people you have a tablet in your truck.
If I didn't have the factory Nav I am sure I would use something, so I am not trying to bash you. But to say it is over the top better is an opinion as is my previous statement.
