Default Engine Shutdown

I was just driving home from the gym and pulled into my driveway when my truck shut off.

2014 fx2 ecoboost
6000 miles
No previous problems

Conditions:
Rainy the past few days, did not romp through any puddles.

48' Fahrenheit outside

Pretty much standard pressure.

Fuel gauge is lower than I like to run it but the truck says 68 miles till empty. no low fuel light but it seems as if the truck ran out of gas.

Next thought is I do have a steep drive way. With the front of the truck pointed down it does show the tank lower than if it were level.

I was only in the driveway 20 seconds before the truck shutdown without warning.

Any ideas? It's pouring rain right now so my thought is just get gas in it and see if that helps.thanks in advance.

Did it start right back up? Any idle issues? Did you have the truck scanned for stored codes?

It did start right back up and ran for about 3-5 seconds. I didn't want to push it after that.

Never a check engine light.

It's pouring outside. I'm going to try gas as soon as it stops pouring. I'm thinking that's the issue. Just strange no low fuel alert ever came on. I know it works since I've seen it on before.

I don't know how the tank is setup but the float might be still be sensing fuel but with the angle of your driveway the pump pick up might be dry and may be your issue. I would, like you said, add fuel and go from there. probably no big deal

Lots of people have this issue, especially with the bigger fuel tank. It is really long and if only a little bit of fuel and a decent angle... Well you know the rest.

Pure and simple ..... You ran out of fuel.

Won't bother noting all of the reasons why it's bad and detrimental to do so, but Heysus Christe, keep the tank at least ½ full and DON'T rely on the SWAG DTE read-outs.

Like others said, most likely you don't have enough fuel left to submerge the pick-up tube while at an incline. And, not trying to lecture you, it is a good idea to keep the tank at least 1/3 full because the fuel does cool the fuel pump.
