Default Gates Powergrip SB thermoset clamps

And I am happy to report the Gates heat shrink clamps work perfect! Super easy to install and makes building your hose a snap. I have a 1000W heat gun and that is what they recommend. What is nice is you can place the clamp over the barb hump on the fitting so it squashes the hose over that hump, creating a very tight seal that is not going to leak. You cannot even move the fitting once you set the clamp, so make sure you trial fit and have the fitting rotated exactly how you want it before you set the clamp with the heat. Makes a great looking hose connection that is leak free and no metal to snag on or bite into the hose and cut it over time....I highly recommend them.

Gates part #32929 is what you need for the 3/4" heater hose and Dorman 90's. Most local CarQuest and O'Reily's have them in stock or you can order them.

Default Looks great!

Great job speed twin32. I was originally going to try to put both my hoses in the same exact location as yours, especially the "left side" or passenger side. The difference for you I believe is that the power grip heat connectors give you a little more squeeze room on the doorman connectors side by side, as where with the clamps the worm gear screw head sticks out some rubbing each other. I see in the one picture page 12 next to the last also you have that firewall screw sticking out to contend with, very close to the hose we are talking about. I know you can swivel the hoses with the doorman 90's so just make sure that hose cant move into that screw, it looks like the length and the plastic tie will keep it in place. That was the other reason I left a little extra length to bend mine down and around and back up. It might be that the power grip connectors make the ends a little stiff, but they are a great idea and good insurance for no leaks. I was wondering how close the Airaid would be since it mirrors the stock intake tubes shape quite a bit. Glad it works it looks very quality OEM, I would have gone that route if I knew about it and that it works with the cover. You fellas have done a great job! Thanks for the information and pics, this will help make this better for others who are thinking about installing a cover.

Speedtwin32,
Did you put the clamps on before you started to heat the connections and then removed them? I am going to do this in the next week or so, Thanks.

Yea, you slide the clamps over the hose and then insert the fitting....trial fit your routing to establish the position of the fittings, and then carefully remove the hose with fittings oriented the way you want them permanetly. Place on working surface with hose end hangin off flat so you can apply heat 360 degrees, and then slide clamp into position where you want and slowly and evenly apply heat with the gun and it will shrink into place very quickly, just make sure you have it positioned exactly where you want it because once it shrinks, it is tight and not moving!

Default Dorman Fittings Update

Well, I have small drip leak from three of the fittings. I used the stock clips that were on the barbs rather than change them out to the new ones, but they don't seem to pull the fitting tight to make a complete seal, it is close, but not perfect. Tried using the new ones in a trial fit and they seemed even loser, lot of up and down play on the barb, so I feared they would leak worse going that route, maybe it is a metric size, not sure. If you put the clips next to each other they are identical in every dimension, so I am baffled.

So anyone else experiencing this small leak if you used the same Dorman fittings?? I wouldn't have even noticed had I not continued to smell coolant eveyday, it is a minor leak, but unacceptable.

Got engine cover off and stock hoses back on until we get this sorted out.

Comment on anything you know....stay tuned.

speedtwin32, I sent you and SpeedViktm a pm. But I am in the same boat too. Mine went for about a good 3 weeks before I noticed the leak that I thought it was coming from my transmission until I figured it out and alerted you all. I will let you all know too if I figure it out or come up with a solution. If anyone has any experience with this please chime in. If the heater core side was 5/8 it looks like the clips would be a different size, but you said you have leaks at 3 connections, I only had it as I noticed a the heater core. So these are not sealing perfect all over. What I don't understand is that I test drove mine for a couple days without the engine cover and no leaks. May have to visit ford parts again and see what I can figure out.

I went to Fordparts.com and the clips are definitely 3/4 on fords website. Part# 18D434 or call out number as stated.[url]http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/PartDetail.aspx?n] They show all 4 3/4" clips.http://www.fordparts.com/Commerce/Ca...o=F-150#Search
Also the part number for the front engine Heater water outlet is 18663 and the Heater water inlet is 18696 but does not show the pipe diameter size.

Weather is suppose to clear up tomorrow morning. I am going to remove factory hoses and take Dorman 90's apart to compare O ring sizes to see if I can check proper fitment. Will post what I find and come up with.

I have a question. Is the 90 leaking on the female side or the barb side with the heat clamp is? I have already bought the 90's.

Leaking on the female side that quick connects. For some reason, they are not seeming to seat tightly and allow just a slight drip leak.

Koolponycar is going to disect both and compare o-ring and clip of both stock Ford and Dorman fittings.

Hang in there and let's see what he finds out.

BTW, thermal clamps are awesome.....squeeze down like an Anaconda gripin it's chow!
