Will be taking delivery of a new truck with the 10R80 transmission soon. To insure maximum life will be doing a fluid exchange as soon as I get it home. As best I can discover, the unique, Mercon spec fluid is a conventional, dyno oil base stock. If so, wish to upgrade to full synthetic. But a Google search fails to turn up any options. Curious if it's available yet. Preferably a Mobil or Valvoline product.
Fair question. A new transmission assembly retains trace amounts of manufacturing debris. Also, gear mesh has two components, rolling and sliding. The sliding action produces fines due to microscopic roughness of the involute profile. Fines are typically seen on the pan magnet during filter service. Purging fluid after initial run-in will extend both gear and valve body life. Synthetic lubricating oils have become the mainstay for critical gear boxes as used in wind turbines and marine propulsion due to service life. If in the area, I'd be pleased to give you a tour of our gear manufacturing facility.
I think you accidentally posted in a "related thread" (hate that "feature").
