Default Coyote!

So I have been wonderingwhat is the difference between the mustang 5.0 and the truck 5.0?

I am curious as to what power potential is there n the truck. I'm undecided as to which motorto get either eco or 5.0 any input as to potential power n the 302 will help me a lot

Read the article in the link above. It explains fords engineers process for building the motor, it's strong points and weak ones, as well as the differences between the truck and mustang version of the 5.0. I haven't been able to find anything more in depth anywhere else online.

That's a really comprehensive article! Thanks for posting that.

I was at my dealer recently for service on my truck and they had several Boss 302 cars there, that said they were 440 hp. That's 88 hp/liter...not bad at all, really.

can someone paraphrase it for the rest of us? haha. Im GUESSING its different cams, lower compression, intake manifold, exhaust manifold and less aggressive timing.

Im sure there is more to it but that would be my guess.

A torque-biased variant of the Coyote is produced as an alternative to the EcoBoost V6 in the new F-150 pickup truck. The F150 5.0L receives a lower compression ratio (10.5:1), intake camshafts with less duration, cast iron exhaust manifolds, and revised cylinder heads and intake manifold intended to promote low-end and mid-range power and torque. The engine retains the Coyote's forged steel crank and piston-cooling jets but benefits from the addition of an external engine oil cooler similar to the Boss 302's. The changes result in the engine's peak horsepower dropping to 360 hp (268 kW; 365 PS) while torque remains the same as the Boss 302 at 380 lb·ft (520 N·m).[citation needed]

does this quote make sense ? cuz it doesnt seem to gain any tq. maybe its also about cost saving and longevity?

That is pretty funny. You would think what they were doing was to increase torque but in the end the number is the same. I guess it indeed comes down to money.

I'm sure it's a longevity thing. With bolt ons and tune I'm sure you could get close
