Default Changing battery

At the six year mark, I decided to change my OEM battery. I could hear a slightly slower turnover in 37’f temps.
I searched this forum and did not find anything on saving computer/radio settings.

I used a small battery charger set on the 2-amp Max charge, connected to the fuse box main lug and fender bolt.
It worked. ( I was careful not to short + terminal to ground) Not to hard as most of this truck is plastic.

Hard part was tying that abortion of a + terminal group out of the way.

Anyone know what the cloth sweat band looking thing around the old OEM battery is there for?

There was no reason to do what the OP did to maintain settings, and in fact it's dangerous. In addition, unless the BMS system is disconnected already, it needs to be reset.

The cloth sweat band looking thing is essentially a heat shield. All modern cars have them due to the increased underhood temps and lack of airflow.

I put them back if they are in good shape, otherwise I trash them.

I got tired of a low battery and disconnected the worthless BMS years ago.

I work on 480 VAC panels hot, what I did is not dangerous for a competent adult.

Owners manual said it had to relearn idle, and other stuff.
Did it save your radio settings also?

can't recall about the radio but odds are the channel settings were not saved. i don't believe i have ever changed a battery in a vehicle with a digital radio display and NOT had the settings lost, it's just the way it works. once you disconnect the power source they are gone.

i recall looking around online for info and i believe i left it sit overnight after the new battery was installed to let the computer "reset" or something like that, but as soon as the swap was done i fired it up and everything worked perfectly. haven't had a problem since.

Strange, I thought we talked about battery resets frickin' daily on this forum. "Unhook battery for 15 minutes", resets computers....sound familiar to anyone? If you can swap a battery in less than 10-15m, then there is nothing changed, anyway. And no need to figure out how to daisy chain anything.

If you actually reset the computers:
Radio presets are not changed when the battery is unhooked. Although it will probably come on to AM radio instead of whichever source you last used.
The memory function in the 4" instrument cluster screen will be reset to 'no memory'.
Relearning idle is probably a good idea.
BMS relearning is also necessary if the sensor is still used, but that happens pretty automatically. You don't need to go to school or anything to learn how to shut the truck off overnight.

how? once the battery is removed what is powering the radio to keep the channel settings?
