Issue: Cannot default the My Ford Sync system (without Navigation) to Bluetooth audio
Some users are having an issue with when they turn the ignition on their My Ford Sync system reverts to Line-In even though they were using Bluetooth audio when they turn their vehicle off. They would like to have the system revert back to Bluetooth audio instead of having to go through the menus to be able to get to Bluetooth audio or use the voice commands. A Ford customer service representative FordIVTteam actually joined in the conversation and gave the reason why Ford made this change (as it would previously revert to Bluetooth) and the best method to get back to the source they wanted.

Follow these steps to format your drive:
On your Mac, connect and power the drive
Open Mac HD on your desktop
Open Applications
Open Utilities
Open Disk Utility
On the left you should see the hard drive listed. It should show the drive size with a second indented line beneath it that shows the volume of the drive.
Click "Erase" at the top of the screen.
Select MS DOS(FAT) File System for the volume format option.
Change the name of the drive if desired.
Click "Erase" at the bottom of the screen. You will get a warning and will need to click "Erase" again.
The drive will be formatted as FAT32 when completed.

So I discovered that if I receive a notification while streaming via bluetooth the system locks on "paused" and the only solution is to turn bt off and back on. Turning off "allow notifications" seems to stop it. I don't remember seeing this option in my previous non-lollipop phone so it may be a new issue with lollipop.

Well new user here, long time lurker.
Updated my SYNC yesterday.... Hoping for the best. Yeah right.
The input now reverts back to the last setting! BUT everything else about the update sucks....
1.) Now when my phone connects it tells me my "911 assist blah blah" is disabled. - Annoying as hell. I know its disabled, I disabled it!
2.) I will get the artist/track name for the first song played with Pandora. Then all I get is "Unknown/Unknown". - also very annoying, and it looks stupid on my dash.
3.) This is obviously a more unstable update, I have had the radio get stuck in FM mode twice, had to actually shut the truck off to get it to do anything.
Samsung Galaxy S5 fully updated newest software
Tried repairing three times
Might try software install again, but I know it worked okay.....Got the "complete" then rebooted then 8 minutes of radio silence/panic mode/wtf is going on ford? Then install complete again. Sat there for a while just to be sure.
Edit - I have the radio with NO lcd screen. 2014 STX.
Edit 2 - I also have the 911 setting enabled now, just so the sync will shut up when I connect the phone. Still have major issues with Pandora though. My main media source.
Edit 3 - I talked to Ford and there is no way to revert back to last version software. FML.

I did my 2011 XLT a couple of days ago and it works great. If I leave the source on Bluetooth Audio and get out of the truck, when I start the truck, it goes right back to BTA and starts streaming music again.
The artist and track info show in the upper display, even works with Spotify and Pandora. I now get test message notifications and the Sync voice will read it (which I quickly turned off because it was annoying).
However, according the the Ford Sync website: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-t...-overview.html, 2011 F-Series doesn't support the AppLink feature of the new update.
I performed the update on my 2012 FX4 with basic SYNC (no MFT, no touchscreen). Due to the fact that my system has been incredibly buggy besides the bluetooth issues most of us have, I decided to Facorty Reset and then disconnect my battery to hard reset, just to be safe.
The update was convoluted and confusing but thanks to the posters here, I expected everything I ran into. SYNC audibly informed me that I need to ignore the first "Installation Complete" message, so I did. After 8 minutes or so I got another "Installation Complete" message but then another after that. I can't remember why I waited for the 3rd, but there was something about the display that led me to believe that it wasn't quite done....perhaps the input indicator, perhaps the Installation in Progress text. Regardless, it took 8 minutes and 3 "Installation Complete" messages before it was done. I did notice that the input cycled through a few settings over the course of the update.
After power cycling again, and setting up my phone and plugging my MP3 USB back in, I played some music from my phone, restarted the truck and my USB audio started to play while my display read the last BTA song/artist. I was disappointed but someone else had experienced this as well so I wasn't completely shocked, just disappointed. I changed the input back to BTA via voice control and went about my day and it didn't happen again. I didn't use the truck again yet but I will report back if I have any other issues.
Here's to hoping that this is fixed once and for all. I will keep my fingers crossed that the rest of my bugginess has been rectified as well.
Thanks to all of the helpful posters here in this community for staying on top of things and reporting back your experiences. Hopefully the rest of you out there (who actually have the same system that this thread is about.....) get you stuff fixed properly.
Cheers!
