Default Blank Sync screen

I have a 2013 F150 XLT with Sync (small screen, not MyFord touch). I bought it in January 2013 and the screen would often have vertical white lines, but I could still read what was displayed.

Yesterday the screen was blank when I started the truck. Everything else seems to work: It plays just fine and I can use the radio/FM/phone buttons and the radio station select presets.

Now it sometimes has what I think is the proper display, but it is squished into the left most third of the screen and is in black and white.

So, I don't know if it is a hardware error with the screen, or the drivers for the screen, or the wire connections.

I didn't find anything like this when I searched on "blank screen". I plan on removing the fuse (is it #29?).

Also, is it possible to do a reset without being able to read the screen?

Seems to be a lot of radio issues in these trucks this year..

Here are a few things to try:
1. Pull the fuse
2. Remove dash and check wiring
3. Remove battery cables and reset computer
4. Software update / sync reset
5. Replace the system with aftermarket

The best reset to try is to remove the battery cable for 15 minutes. Although there is an ignition sequence you should do after that to properly reset the truck's shifting and idle. That is in the manual.

Lines thru an LCD screen usually mean a loose connection. The connection can be the cable, the connector or the soldering connection on the screen itself.
The fact that you are seeing the "picture" squished in the corner in black and white, tell me that the receiver is sending the data signal properly and the LCD screen is receiving it just fine as well, which means that your receiver and wiring are fine and the problem is in the LCD unit itself.

My best guess is that you have a bad connections between the connector or the LCD and the circuit board, either cause by cracked solder connection or a trace that is separating from the board. Both are reparable if you know what you are doing and don't want to spend the $50-$100 on eBay to get a new screen module.

It has taken me 3 weeks to find the time to dig into this problem.

I removed the control panel after viewing this video:

I removed the LCD panel and unplugged it. I removed the back cover of the LCD (there are 6 plastic tabs). I saw nothing unusual on the back of the circuit board, but I didn't remove the circuit board, or the LCD. It is mostly all back together and the display has not improved.

Tomorrow, I will take apart the LCD and look for corrosion or loose connections. I see a new LCD in my future.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Did you ever fix the display issue? The screen on my 2014 XLT is on the fritz. First it went completely white and now it’s flashing black. The radio and sync still work so looks like just a display issue.

Hope you can help

I bought a used screen on Ebay and it has worked well since then.

This reminds me to put the dash board back together. I never put all the screws back in, thinking I would just have to take it apart again.

Thanks,
I went to a dealer this morning and they quoted $656 CDN lol. I did get the part number but on eBay I could only see the 8 inch screens. We're camping right now so I'll have to investigate further when I get home.

Do you by any chance have the eBay linked you used ?

I purchased it from 1factoryradio on Ebay. They also have a website. The model I bought is https://1factoryradio.com/2013-ford-...d3t-18b955-cg/ It was a little cheaper a year ago when I bought it.
