Thanks guys, I just got off the phone with my dealer service department, told me it can't be done on the 2013 STX. I guess they want to punish you for buying cheap. I got the 5.0 V8 and love the truck just miss my auto headlights.

It can be done. It's just a huge pain to do on 11+ trucks. Another member did it. Once I find the thread, I'll link it for you.

I just happened to link to these two posts this morning on the ford Edge forum I belong to also. An owner wants to add the auto lights to his 2013 Edge and I remembered these posts here that I had read in the past.

It has been done on the newer models, but you have to rewrite or copy over some of the factory computer codes. The first link started with a 2011 which was plug and play, but the posts continued into the 2012 and 2013 models which are much more complicated to do.

I too have a 13 stx 5.0 our definition of cheap must be different. Haha. I don't agree with Ford that you can't upgrade and personalize the truck you buy to more fit your needs without buying a 50k+ truck and getting things you don't need or want. Also Seems silly that having auto lights vs not would be so important that you wish you'd stuck with chevy but not important enough to check for while looking for a new truck.

I hope you can get it figured out

Why do you need auto lights? Just turn them on when you get in and off when you get out. It beeps at you if you leave them on. My wife uses it when she drives the truck. I hate it. I'd rather my lights always be on so I just turn the ****.

When I saw what one of the Forum contributors had to go through to get the ato headlights to work I took the parts and consigned them to the shelf. A **** twist is all it takes.

But if you had an 09-10 you'd be all over it! Love mine and glad all I had to do was plug them in.

Dredging this one up to eat some crow. After quite some time the long "Auto Headlights" thread finally identified two simple body control module (BCM) codes that can be altered to activate the automatic headlights feature once the correct parts (auto headlight compatible switch & sensor) are installed. The lines of BCM code that have to be altered are:

726-09-01, change from 0000 37, to 0100 38
726-12-01, change from 0000 000F 4F to 0001 000C 4D

My dealer charged one hour labor to do the programming using IDS. Probably took his tech five minutes, but....

This works on 2011 - 2013 model year STXs (maybe XLs) as they have the corrrect wiring and a BCM that can be programmed for the feature. Apparently Ford's bean counters removed the wiring on XLs & STXs starting in 2014 model year to save 1/2 cent on each truck.

There is another ICM code that can be changed to put the delay feature on the message center, however that one gets really tricky and is IMHO a waste of time. You can program the delay feature manually using a procedure in the field service manual, available on motorcraftservice.com.

if you are still looking here you go another member got his all hooked up. I just hooked up the switch and for right now just ran 1 wire it took a lot longer to remove the steering wheel cover then it did to hook up the switch run 1 wire. granted without the sensor or the program (for the time being) I have DRL and timed them when I turned off the truck, they only stay on for 10 seconds. But you got to make sure you run 1 wire from the switch to the SCCM. Real easy and like I said this member did a great write up and if the rain wasn't moving in while I was doing this I would have taken pictures but I was in a hurry.

Here is the issue with me, my wife has a 2013 STX and I know it does not have automatic lights, but I do not drive it often, We were in Down town San Antonio the other day/turned night. Came out of the restaurant after dark got in the truck and started to drive, now down town is lite up really well and I did not notice my lights were not on BECAUSE THE DASH LIGHTS WERE LIT UP!!! I drive about 50K a year and have warn out many a vehicle in my 57 years on this planet but have NEVER seen a vehicle that would turn on the dash lights unless the head/tail lights were on, the SAPD did not have any sympathy for this POS Ford issue.
