Default Another MPG thread

So we finally took our truck and travel trailer out. Happy to get away, but kind of surprised at the mileage we are getting. I averaged 7mpg. Based on a family members 16' EB same config, gearing and all, which I am pretty certain got around 12 with the same trailer, (it actually pulled with less effort as well) I had hoped for better. Trailer brakes are not dragging, weighs 3000 to 3500lbs depending on cargo. Any thoughts? I am due for plugs and boots which I will do before next trip, but wanted to check in with you all to see if I am missing something. It was a Canadian truck, so I am unsure about potential restrictive emissions compared with state side trucks. I did do the KAM reset when I bought it, made a significant difference in feel. That being said there is a solid 3 second hesitation getting into the throttle. I have read this is due to the DBW system, or potentially throttle body. Anyway, I average 21mpg empty on the highway, accurate +/-1 mpg. Other than the hesitation and towing efficiency it runs great, super quite, very smooth idle, etc. Definitely needs shocks... Thoughts?

You might want to clean the throttle body and mass air flow sensor. They use different cleaners.I used to have a 2007 GT Mustang and around
48,000 miles it started to have hesitation similar to yours. When I cleaned the throttle body the rag got very black and dirty. After that the hesitation
went away and seemed to run better. Don't remember how much it may have helped the fuel mileage but with a GT who cares. lol

Comparing your 2013 truck to your buddies 2016 is like clementines to oranges. He weighs less cus of the aluminum body. Your truck probably weighs in at around 5800 and i bet his is in the neighborhood of 5400.

Agreed, I thought of that as well. We get around the same empty mpg highway. Within 1mpg or so. I know there are other differences as well, but 5mpg difference while towing the same box is pretty significant. I am starting to suspect TB issues... With the hesitation problem, a good 3 seconds worth. It's not turbo lag. Thinking bout replacing the TB and doing a throttle reset for S&G's to see what happens. That all depends how many bars of gold Ford wants for a TB.

You could always go with this throttle body. But it is about 4x the price.

Or here is fords

Let me know if you go that route and if it fixes the hesitation. I get a hesitation too and sometimes it can be dangerous. Otherwise I am leaning towards a pedal commander that has been known to fix the hesitation.

I appreciate the link, thanks! I saw that one from 5 star, I won't be going that route, as you said you mentioned the price. I also saw that pedal commander, Ill do that as a last resort. Really hoping I can find out whats wrong first. I did learn today there are 3 air sensors, two MAF's and one MAP/MAF. With knowledge something is after the CAC, and how gunked up that can get, ill try cleaning those first.

I've cleaned everything that should make a difference with no fix for the hesitation. I even have a 5 star tune and it is still there (I even asked them to fix it and with three different tunes it was still there). Replacing the throttle body seems like it could be the issue or the pedal commander to fix the pedal sensitivity.
