Default Adding oem trailer brake controller

So my 2011 Lariat has the following options:

Trailer Sway Control
Trailer Towing Package
3.55 limited slip axle
7200# GVWR package

I've done a search for the actual install of the brake controller and it seems pretty straight forward.

Can I simply add the OEM brake control then have my dealer flash it or are there other things I'll need to do?

We're buying a new house and the guy is selling me his Kubota. Will probably be getting a tandem axle 16' trailer to haul the Kubota BX2360 tractor with a front end loader (around 1800-2000lbs), and need to know just what will be involved. Will my 2" lift mess up towing?

Kinda sad I'll lose my little hidey hole for my sunglasses!

Thanks.

yes you can. I just did this on my 13. the wiring harness should be behind the dash. Just plug in the oem controller and have the dealer or anyone with the right tools enable it in the programming.

You can also enable it with Forscan. See the thread here:

I thought most big trailers today had built in hydraulic surge brakes.

So if the trailer I end up getting has them there's no reason to spend the money on a brake controller for the truck?

If you're buying a new trailer, do yourself a favor and spend the extra coin to get electric over hydraulic disc brakes.
You'll thank me later.

I hate surge brakes, especially in hilly country. If you're not careful to pin the trailer going down a long, steep road, you can have brake drums glowing red almost.

I'd spend $125 and get a nice aftermarket controller. I assume the have Many more options than the OEM setup.

Also get the harness and it's plug and play.

I disagree. Ford's trailer sway control is not available with an aftermarket controller. The OEM controller also integrates with Ford's instrument panel so you can name the trailer and it will remember the brake settings. You can have several trailers named.
