Default AC temp

Posted are pics of my ac temp at the driver side vent. Seems like it should be colder.

Why do you think that? It might be normal or it might not be.

You haven't given anyone enough information to make any recommendations much less provided any information about what you're working on and why.

That's blowing pretty cold air depending on the ambient. Comfort cooling spec is typically 55 degrees.

I took my 13 in to the dealer when it was new for basically the same way you feel: 44-48 vent temp here in Houston Texas will never cool the truck, never! I begged them to take the truck, keep it for how ever long they needed it, they refused. One dealer received approval to exchange the evap box because the Ford Service manual states the cycling temp at the evap should be 36-38 as I recall. Mine was 44-48. After replacement, nothing was better and they stopped helping.

From what I was initially told by the dealer, if you are getting a 20 degree drop from ambient, the ac is working! We know this is BS. So 10 years later and 3 evap boxes, I still have the poor performing AC, like you. I had 40 degree air on my 08 and a third party auto ac tech told me that this was great temp and in his Ford truck his temp was higher.

The new trucks are having a freezing issue that is the opposite! All I can suggest to you is to take it to a shop and make sure your system is correctly charged with a charging machine, not just by guages. Ford has played with the AC systems in order to gain MPG's. Back years ago on the 13 forum, a hack was created to allow our compressors to stay on longer and it worked and many have used it for years! Unfortunately, Ford will tell you your vent temp is normal! My wifes Edge will freeze you out with 38 degree vent temp, as well as my sons (former) 14 Explorer.

Now THIS is the reply I was hoping for, not some smart *** saying "oh it might be normal or might not be". I posted my thread in the 09-14 F150 forum. Obviously that's what I have, and all the gens of this year would have the same ac system. Anyway, I digress. Thank you again.

ac vent temp is related to ambient air temps - without knowing the ambient air temp those vent temps would see ballpark correct. To get a better answer more information is needed. Low and high side pressures along with vent temps all correlate to ambient air temp. "is this normal for this vehicle" and "why isn't is a cold as vehicle X" are completely different things

Problem is, when the Ford Service manual states that the evap temp should be 36-38 degrees and its not performing at that, there is an issue not related to outside temp. (They deemed it a bad temperature probe) That is what I was told by the tech and the service manager when the first box was exchanged in mine. (Observed my performance (44-48) on their IDS System.) The only difference in these systems, IMO, is the location of the owner. ALL systems should be performing the same design spec wise! Yes the evap coil is impacted by the outside temp, when recirc is off, and if you have 100 ambient, it will impact your vent temp to an extent. But the evap temp should still be performing to spec at 36-38 degrees. As far as I know, they are all designed to the same specs regardless of whether they end up in Texas or Alaska! JMO
