Default 2010 e85 talk

Well i haven't found a whole lot of info so maybe this thread will help get the ball rolling.....

Just picked up my truck last week and i'll be filling up tommoow. I actually found an e85 station right by work so i figure i'd give it a shot and just see what kind of MPG's i'll get. I'm averaging about 19-20mpg on regular unleaded with a mix of 70/30 highway/city. Anyone else put e85 in their 5.4 yet? Results?

Found it at $2.25 a gallon here vs. $2.58 for good ol 87 octane..

Also for anyone trying to find a nearby station or just wants some more info a great site i found is: www.e85prices.com

ive been using e85 for about the past 5 tanks. i definitely notice a 3-ish mpg decrease but the price is just hard to beat for 3 less mpg. Also, since e85 is 106 (or 109 i dont remember) octane, the truck hauls ***. The pro's of running e85 full time outweigh the cons. if you run e85 for a few tanks, it cleans the carbon deposits from the whole engine/exhaust system. if you look inside the exhaust pipe, after about 3 tanks or so it turns from black to shiny new metal!

If the 3-less MPG is 13 versus 16, you're looking at approximately 80% of the fuel economy you would normally get. It works out mathematically that to pay for itself, the cost of the E85 needs to be 80% of the cost of gasoline.

Sometimes it's close, sometimes E85 really pays off... I actually look forward to the price of gasoline to go up so I can use E85 and save money! Well, with my truck anyway, not any of the toys.

It would be nice if more vehicles were designed to run on E85 just for performance. You can tune the engine completely differently because of the increased octane (less flammable than lower octane, resulting in a more controlled/timed burn) and make a lot of extra power.

i was actually considering getting a e85 carb for my 468 big block when i pulled it to get rebuilt for my 73 camaro. the octane rating on e85 is almost that of race gas. i wonder what it would have dyno'd at...

Well been running E85 since mid April. Around mid Ohio you can find E85 ok but start heading east and there is nothing. So as I am working in Lancaster and they have two stations with it I have been running it all the time. Let me say there is a difference in how your tuck will drive But this is going to come to an end when I transfer back to Zanesville . Burns clean almost no smell at the tail pipe, and as long as you can find it .30 to .50 cheaper than regular gas you still make out with the decrees in MPG. what is funny with the extra pep I tend to be a little harder on the gas peddle than I should...

Here in Milwaukee, WI. e85 is only 10 to 20 cents a gallon less than regular gas. not cost effective to run it. I drive 250 highway miles a week getting 18 miles to a gallon in the summer and 15 in the winter. right now a gallon of gas is $2.65. in order to break even with the e85 the cost would have to be $2.20 a gallon. No e85 in my tank.

I will probably run some when the price of regular goes up. I think the manual recommends more frequent oil changes and running a tank of regular gas every so often when running E85.
