2010 e85 talk
just my point of view.... politics has nothing to do with my comment. Al Gore is no longer a political figure... just a bafoon that even his own wife discreditsI support farmers by buying crops and meats for food... not to burn off in my truck. E85 is just as much BS as the hole in the ozone. it cost a few pennies less to buy, cost more to produce.... we think it burns a little cleaner but there aren't enough vehicles running it to really know. The engines cost more to manufacture and it hasn't been around long enough to know what affect it will have in the long run on engine life.... E85 was originated in part by politics.... so ignorant? not at all.

It quadrupled the price of corn in just a few years. I guess that's great if you are a corn crop farmer. If you are a beef farmer, you are just hosed. The beef farmers can and are switching to producing corn. I guess that's fine if you don't mind eating imported beef that has no telling what diseases, hormones, etc. No thanks. I'll just stick to my regular unleaded with 10% ethanol. Did I mention I was raised on a beef farm that only raises healthy, hormone free beef (and did I mention amazingly tasty?)? My dad is fed up with the market and the price of corn. This time next year, I doubt there will be any beef at my parent's farm. One less beef farmer in America. Rant over.
i dont know if i want to run it or not. i guess im on the fence. personally i think its just as carbon producing as gas considering the amount of diesel it takes to farm it, cut it, and haul it. that and the indirect costs associated with its production, such as increase in corn and beef products. so i dunno if the pros outweigh the cons. only time will tell.
I think the thing no one is seeing here that when regular gas went up e85 went up at the same rates. Not sure how that works but that's another topic. Also the break even point on e85 is much higher than $0.30- $0.50. If regular fuel is $2.60 e85 needs to be $2.08/ gal to just break even and that is if you only loose 3 mpg. E85 is a joke. It has raised the price of corn so much that there are ethanol plants that have been built and never opened because they can not make money with the price of corn.
Also, it should be noted that the Ford Maintenance Schedule is different for vehicles with the Special Operating Conditions listed below:
.....Every 3,000 miles - Fill fuel tank with a full tank of regular unleaded fuel.
Use of E85 50% of the time or greater (flex fuel vehicles only)
.....Every 3,000 miles - Fill fuel tank with a full tank of regular unleaded fuel.
.....Every 5,000 miles or 6 months - Change engine oil and replace oil filter.

Ok so i filled up with e85 and noticed 3 things. One of which was rather surprising....
I actually have the 36 gallon tank.... And it wasn't listed as an option on the spec sheet from ford. (bought it new last weekend) and wasn't mentioned anywhere, it's like they have the wrong gas tank on....
2nd.... definitley more power it feels like.
Fuel mpg.....Dangit....dropped from an average of 19.5~6 to about 16.

Not to mention the fact that there is a reason they are asking for the lower change interval. There is something that is building up in the oil that needs to be removed and it can't be a good thing.
Here in Milwaukee, WI. e85 is only 10 to 20 cents a gallon less than regular gas. not cost effective to run it. I drive 250 highway miles a week getting 18 miles to a gallon in the summer and 15 in the winter. right now a gallon of gas is $2.65. in order to break even with the e85 the cost would have to be $2.20 a gallon. No e85 in my tank.
using FOOD for engergy is the absolute stupidest thing ever all it will do is drive up FOOD prices. Retards learn quicker than the government. Personally however I have a tuner and my truck has an E85 tune it makes more HP but the Fuel economy sucks and its not worth it, cost/galon. Just my opinnion.
