Thanks! I should have thought of that - tested my home audio speakers a long while back this way.

I have a meter and 50hz tone file (got it, pink noise, and 1000hz off Kicker's web site). I'll disconnect the RCA from my sub amp, plug it in to my meter, then measure with the 50hz tone.

Yup, exactly. I would also look at the output gain on the 8.9 just to double check your settings there too.

Been awhile since I've done this so to check:

For pre-out I want to use AC correct?

Put the positive lead inside the rca jack and touch negative to the outside shielding? Testing the single pre-out on the Audison.

Yes that is correct. You want AC 200. I would recommend making an rca to multimeter lead adaptor. Takes a couple minutes and a soldering iron. It's a great tool to have for testing!

Positive lead always goes to the pin, ground goes to the shield/outer ring of the rca connector.

Hey Moni,

I just updated the unit via my pc but I followed the instructions listed in the text file dated 07/12/2018 but after looking through this thread, I noticed the instructions listed didn't match your instructions back a couple pages. You stated we needed to plug it into the truck, wait for the green light, and then take it back to the computer to update it or the unit would have to be sent back to you for repair. Did I mess my unit up? Unfortunately, I don't have my system built yet to test.

Edit: just found the most recent update instructions and installed 2.0.0 before installing Zen V2. Looks like I will shipping back to you. Damn it.

No, I didn't read the entire thread properly. The date was set on the date I extracted.

So I re-installed the update according the most recent instructions and then I connected the unit to power with some alligator clips. I got the blue and then green flashing lights. Then I went back to my computer and did the 2.0.8 update and got the green success bar. Then I plugged it back into power and now the unit gives me one blue flash then the red optical light turns on and then off. Then it just goes dark. Did I brick the unit?

I don't know if you are going to see the correct light sequence absent the unit being able to read the CAN bus. When it starts it blinks (green or blue, I forget) when initializing on the bus, which is very quick, then goes solid blue when active and communicating with the bus. That's the normal operating state when it is on and fully hooked up.

I had one get stuck in bootloader mode, which is a constant rapid blue flash. That's a sign of a problem for sure if you see that. So I don't know that you bricked it but I am sure you can call them and ask - probably hard for them to troubleshoot until you have it hooked up in the vehicle though.
