Since us OBS guys aren't too well represented here, I'll throw in my 2-cents!

When I first got my '95 (Long Bed, 300 straight 6, 5-speed, 2.73 gears, 2WD), I was getting about 14 mpg in combined driving.

Then I installed a K&N filter and went up to 15.4.

Added a hotter coil and went up to 16.3. Then finally I added dual electric fans and am now up to 18.3.

I have gotten as high as 19.7 during warmer weather. I do keep the speed down between 60-65 as it seems to make a big difference if I go faster. I only made one payment on my truck, so it doesn't make any sense to me to make payments on a newer truck that may or may not get better mileage! Plus it seems most newer trucks have shorter beds, and having an 8-foot bed I can really haul stuff if I need to!

I've got close to 165k on it and it runs like a top! And I really like the ride, so I can't ask much more than that!

That's pretty cool. What fans did you use?

I used these:

http://ffdynamics.com/products/f15028

I'm not sure I'd really recommend them though. I went through 2 of their controllers before I had to buy one at the local parts store. The fans seem to be okay, but you may be better off buying the fans and controller separately and save a few bucks. Lots of other people have gotten fans at the junkyard, but I didn't really have that option.

I have windstar fans and a Doral fixed temp controller on mine and they are holding up pretty well. I went through two variable temp controllers before I decided I was going to try something else. I think this one is two years old and haven't had a hiccup.

As long as it works, that's what matters!

I have a variable controller on mine that seems to be holding up okay. This is the third one I've had on there but hopefully I won't have any more issues!

2010 5.4/3.55 140,000 miles on it.

Just took 1,800 mile trip. I got 17mpg at 1900RPM at 70MPH.

Does that sound about right? I was hoping to get closer to 20...

My biggest tip would be just a conservative foot. If I drive calmly, my V8 2015 2WD averages the following: 24.5@55mph hwy, 22.6@71mph hwy, and 18 in the city. This is calculated by gallons÷miles, as the onboard computer reads about 5% high. I'm also in Florida at near sea level on 87 octane. No mods whatsoever.

From what I have been reading in this thread, that appears to be within the window for the year/engine size/speed/gearing assuming no mods. (intake, etc)
