So, I think I figured out my mpg issue. I was only getting 13mpg on the dash. I found out my trailer sway control was on, turned it off and almost instantly got an increase of 3 to 16mpg. I'll need to run another tank to be sure, but I'll update then. Makes sense though because it senses roll and actively applies the brakes to each wheel as needed.

Let me make sure I understand what you're saying. You were getting 13mpg WHILE TOWING right? Because the trailer sway control being turned on won't do anything to your mileage if there's no trailer connected. If that were the case then my mileage is going to be over 40mpg because I have trailer sway control selected all the time and I'm constantly getting a 26.2mpg average every time I fill the tank.

Nope, no towing what so ever. I feel like I should correct you on the trailer sway though. The truck does not know whether or not you have a trailer connected, thus the reason the anti roll is always on. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure there is no trailer sensor within the truck. Again, I was getting 13mpg without a trailer connected. Still only getting 16mpg now, which is really quite disappointing considering I'm running a 4.6l. Once I disabled the trailer sway control, it almost felt like a huge weight was lifted off the truck, I haven't had to disable it since, and my mpg had stayed the same. Maybe it's just a coincidence, but if it is, maybe someone can explain why I'm getting such terrible miliage.

For those who remember (or care), I had a remanufactured 5.4 3v engine installed in my 2004 F150 after the original engine swallowed a valve. I was satisfied with the original engine's 15mpg at 164000 miles. I ran the new engine about 2k miles with oil changes at 200 miles and 1000 miles, then changed oil again and went on a 2400 mile road trip. The mpg results were stunning. I averaged a little over 18mpg for the whole trip. It included 2 day stops in Tampa, Panama City, Charleston as well as some small towns along the way. Dyno oil as recommended until I got home, then yesterday I changed to AMSOIL 5w-20.

Not sure what year your truck is but most of the late model trucks do know you have a trailer connected due to connecting the trailer plug into the connector.

My best mileage so far - 21.8 mpg measured on a trip driving almost all highway. Speeds 60-76 mph for most of the drive. Very happy with that.

Just back from Michigan where we were on the job for little over a week. Gassed up when we got there (price nearly$3.00/gal.) so we took it easy on the throttle. Drove back yesterday and gassed up in Ft. Wayne Ind. The truck took 13.709 gallons for the 313.4 miles driven for 22.8 mpg. Half of the miles were local in Michigan getting supplies, rental equipment, food and beer. On the highway though, I set the cruise at no more than 64 mph. I was happy with the results. Later today I will fill the truck again and take an image of the dash and post the numbers of for the hand calculation as I continued home with the cruise control set below 65 mph.

To follow up: I did gas up this morning 12.8 gallons over 323 miles for mileage equaling 25.238 mpg. I wanted to post a pic of the dash but it was so huge I decided not to post.

About 800 miles on the truck, averaging about 18.7 mpg with mixed city/highway driving. Not great...but not terrible for a full-sized 4x4 supercrew cab truck. (3.5l engine)
