Default Replacement key recommendations?

I bought the truck with one key, like to get a backup but don’t want to spend dealership prices. I also don’t know what sites to trust. Thank you in advance for your time.

I am not certain if you have key or push button ignition. The key fob requires someone to program it. The cheapest option is to call around to local locksmiths and check prices. My replacement cost $195, which included the new fob and programming. The fob has a spare key inside that requires laser cutting (another $75), which I declined. For comparison, the dealer wanted close to $500 for the same service.

For my 2007 F150, I had my keys cut and programed at my local ACE Hardware. I have no idea if your local ACE has this service.5/25/2020 – Two new keys cut and programmed at ACE Hardware Ocean Springs MS. $80-10% (Senior discount) = $72 plus tax. I now have a total of three sets of keys.

I got an extra fob from these guys. Whether you can program itself depends on the year and how many other working fobs you have.

If you only have one key you will need to go to the dealer or locksmith because by 2016 the security needs two keys to enter program mode. It's possible Forscan or a scantool can do it with one key and the timeout process.

Also, you don't have to get the switchblade remote if you don't want the keyless options. The 164-R1828 keyblade will work, if programmed, to start the truck. Just know if the truck is locked and you use the key to manually unlock the door lock rather than the door keypad that you may need to start the truck or it will trigger the alarm.
