Programmers
I have a 2006 F150 (obviously) 4.6L with a 6 inch lift and 35s, K&N cold air intake, and flowmaster exhaust. I want to get a programmer for hp and torque gains, but I don't really know much about them. Which ones do you guys recommend? Any specific brands or models?
SCT X3 w/custom tunes. The Edge Evo won't be able to correct any lean conditions because of your intake. Mike at 5 Star tuning would be a good person to give a call to. There's also Troyer Performance(who just might be the best at tuning these trucks) but be prepared to wait for your custom tunes. I have also heard good things about the Gryphon from PHP. You're looking at $400 +/-. I'm sure there are others worth considering.
I did some researching today and from what I read many people prefer an Edge or SCT. What are your guys opinions on just those two brands. Which would be a better choice for my set up? Also, which model of those brands?
You guys also said get a custom Gryphon tune or get a custom tune from Mike at 5 Star Tuning. How would I go about getting a Gryphon tune or getting Mike to make me a custom tune? I know those are probably dumb questions, but I know nothing about programmers.
One more really dumb question, is a programmer really worth it?

First off. The warm air intake does very little if anything over the stock cold air intake that comes from the factory. It looks nice, and makes a "whooshing" noise when you get into the throttle.
The 2004 and up ran lean from the factory. Adding a warm air intake, makes them run even leaner. Add a programmer that runs it lean with canned tunes, and you are asking for trouble.(that warning comes from the Edge's manual).
That's why the suggestions of a custom tune to go with the intake. They can adjust for the lean condition, at a price over a standard Edge or the like programmer.
I have an Edge CS, on a stock truck, and think it's worth every penny. It you have modifications, or wanted custom tunes written for specific applications, that's another story. I just don't see spending another $150 for the a custom tune. It's not worth it to me.
