Default Programmers

I have a 2006 F150 (obviously) 4.6L with a 6 inch lift and 35s, K&N cold air intake, and flowmaster exhaust. I want to get a programmer for hp and torque gains, but I don't really know much about them. Which ones do you guys recommend? Any specific brands or models?

Get an Edge and have it converted to a Gryphon with a custom tune for your CAI and Exhaust..

Edge's are good, SCT's are good, they all have minor pro's and cons. A lot depends on just how much you want to spend.

SCT X3 w/custom tunes. The Edge Evo won't be able to correct any lean conditions because of your intake. Mike at 5 Star tuning would be a good person to give a call to. There's also Troyer Performance(who just might be the best at tuning these trucks) but be prepared to wait for your custom tunes. I have also heard good things about the Gryphon from PHP. You're looking at $400 +/-. I'm sure there are others worth considering.

Or take off the KN intake, and just go with a programmer without the custom tunes.

I did some researching today and from what I read many people prefer an Edge or SCT. What are your guys opinions on just those two brands. Which would be a better choice for my set up? Also, which model of those brands?

You guys also said get a custom Gryphon tune or get a custom tune from Mike at 5 Star Tuning. How would I go about getting a Gryphon tune or getting Mike to make me a custom tune? I know those are probably dumb questions, but I know nothing about programmers.

One more really dumb question, is a programmer really worth it?

Custom tunes are worth it. Canned tunes don't offer much more then a stock tune, IMO.

First off. The warm air intake does very little if anything over the stock cold air intake that comes from the factory. It looks nice, and makes a "whooshing" noise when you get into the throttle.
The 2004 and up ran lean from the factory. Adding a warm air intake, makes them run even leaner. Add a programmer that runs it lean with canned tunes, and you are asking for trouble.(that warning comes from the Edge's manual).
That's why the suggestions of a custom tune to go with the intake. They can adjust for the lean condition, at a price over a standard Edge or the like programmer.

I have an Edge CS, on a stock truck, and think it's worth every penny. It you have modifications, or wanted custom tunes written for specific applications, that's another story. I just don't see spending another $150 for the a custom tune. It's not worth it to me.

I agree I have a edge and flowmaster exhaust and I've seen enough gains that I feel it's worth it. I also realize that my 5.4 with 3.73 gears 35" tires isn't a race truck or a economy vehicle so why waste that much money to try and gain a few horses. Also why buy a edge then send it to php when you can just order it from php?
